Devblog Update 14

Hi everybody! I felt like I wasn't going to have a lot to report this month, but I was surprised when I looked back - This felt like a more chill month but we still made a lot of great progress on the game!

changedThe demos average playtime has dramatically increased! This is great to see and I'll continue to hope as the game gets more complete, the demo will keep getting more fun for people.
changedOptimization push this month - I had some users in the community with very low end machines, and I wanted to try and get the game to run a bit better for them! A lot of optimization however will be held off until I'm in beta - It's hard to optimize when we are still mid-development
changedImprovements to the video/graphic settings for lower res monitors and widescreen highrez monitors! People would get super blurry or bizarre resolutions when launching the game, I now 'restricted' it so it'll always be 16:9 ratio resolutions
addedA Relic system is finally working but no visuals to show you just yet - I now have it so we can start making relics you can catch. We'll keep this simple to start, such as furniture, hats for dog, and finally the long requested Singing billy bass wall mount (I wanted that to be rare findable object). Down the road, we will delve into more actual Luthranian relics that can be lore drops or collection.

Some special things to note -

  • We are now at 13K wishlists!! That's huge for somebody with no major pushes on marketing or advertising the game and just purely focused on development. Super happy how this is going and feels positive for our direction!

  • The demos average playtime has dramatically increased! This is great to see and I'll continue to hope as the game gets more complete, the demo will keep getting more fun for people.

Upcoming things I still want to do in Alpha 6 (Which is focused on biomes/fishing) -

  • Making fishing mechanics a bit deeper and more interesting, such as rare giga-catch events (Mini Game) and having fish fight back

  • Water Health mechanic (Overfishing in water can cause worse catches)

  • Fisher Stations get a 2.0 pass on them and expand them to the ocean and parliament biome

  • Experiment with a fishing trap mechanic

  • Expand wildlife to a few more animals

  • Fish Rotting Mechanic (Leaving fish unattended on the ground and not stored properly)

  • Try to find ways to make the bubbles more obvious - It seems like people are really enjoying this mechanic

  • Bait 2.0 polish

New Biome Progress - Swamps (Early work in progress)

Now that Parliament biome is finished, I am moving onto our 4th biome. This is showing you the 'proxy phase' which is super early on, but its making great progress and enjoying the feel a lot so far!

To travel to the further new reaches of the old world, you'll need a new way of transportation -

Reading/Dialogue now works!

I will slowly start adding bits of lore! I also plan on adding some mysterious NPC's that can spawn in biomes you can speak to for little bits of info

Sparky's grave got a uplift for the lore addition now

Small retouches were done to make this area fleshed out better, now that lore/readable spots are doable now

Basic Wildlife Simulation (Ducks, Frogs, Crabs)

I hope to slowly add more animals (Deer, Racoons, Buffalo, Capybaras) to make the world feel more alive and interesting

Deployable Crates to deliver fish back to your shop

You will be able to buy these later game, and have the ability to ship back fish and supplies back to your shop. Later on versions will have more storage. These also have a convient 'Deposit All' which will take all fish in your inventory and automatically into the crate! This new bit of functionality can be added for the shop as well, such as shelves or storage in the future.

Parliament Biome is now complete!

With a lovely beaver dam added, this biome and region is better fleshed out! I have now moved onto the 4th Biome.
