Let’s talk about Perk+!

Hello Raiders!

Welcome to another feature preview covering a key feature coming to Raiders of Blackveil in our next major update: The Ghoulag Update.

What is it?

Perk+ is a new system that allows you to upgrade perks, making them far more powerful and potentially build defining. Each perk can be upgraded twice through the Alchemy Table, which is a new type of room reward.

Why this feature?

Build Identity

We want runs to have a stronger sense of build identity. Our goal is for players to put together a specific set of perks that noticeably changes how their champion performs. You should be able to clearly see and feel when a build starts coming together. We believe that having slightly fewer, but more impactful, perks is the first step in that direction.

Build Variety

Right now, we rely on perk rarity to determine a perk’s strength and impact. While this works, some perks simply aren’t powerful enough to build around unless we push them into Epic or Legendary rarity, which we cannot do for all perks.

The Perk+ System expands this design space by allowing some perks to start out relatively modest, but scale into extremely powerful build-defining options when upgraded multiple times. We feel this is a more fun design approach and opens up many new perk combinations!

Below are two examples of this system in action. Preparation evolves from occasional Fury generation into near-permanent Fury when Out of Danger, while Glass Cannon transforms into a playstyle built around staying below 25% health.

A note on perk and equipment combinations

One common piece of feedback we have received is that it can feel too difficult to find perks that match your equipment stats. The first step towards improving this is giving you more control over perk classes, since this is what enables you to target effects like Curse, Burn, Bleed etc.

In The Ghoulag Update, we are introducing several changes to give you more control over your perk builds.

Select between all unlocked classes in first perk chest

This is a new Atlas upgrade that gives you full control over which class appears in your first perk chest. If you have also unlocked the “Double Perk” upgrade, you can now start each run with two perks from exactly the class you want.

Choose between three perk classes

Another new Atlas upgrade allows you to choose between three classes when drafting perks, giving you even more control over your build direction.

Significant reduction in re-roll token price

It was never our intention for this feature to feel like a heavy grind, so we have significantly reduced the token price.

That’s it for now!

The Ghoulag Update is just around the corner. We look forward to hearing your feedback and watching you smash the new content.
