Yo! Today's devlog is about the impossible, such as..
Achieving The Impossible
At long last, controllers now ACTUALLY work on the exported game! This is a feature that was "completed" back in November on Sunday Devlog 25. It is hard to overstate the amount of work the engine developer and I have put in to figure out what got controllers so discombobulated on export, but the game can now leverage the Steam API to "translate" more jumbled controllers like my PS5 Dualsense to work with the game.
Getting this working made me feel like a child on Christmas morning.
With this hurdle hopped, there are only a couple smaller things left on the road to 1.3's public beta and release. Along with the weight of my week ahead outside of this project (light), I can confidently say that you can expect a 1.3 open beta by the end of the week.
Taming The Impossible
One of the most prevalent pieces of feedback we got from the full game is that the game's harder levels are a massive difficulty jump. So, to help remedy this, the three levels in the game beyond Dangerous error amount are getting the following nerfs:
Dubious Dessert: Piano part now has notes that are black and white in groups, instead of constantly oscillating (this makes them far easier to hit).
Zenius: Earlier part has slightly more notes so the warmup is less dull, and the high energy part has less rapid taps and note color changes. Note speed also slowed down.
- SigmaNote speed slowed down, certain fast parts simplified, and some parts require slightly less rapid strafing.
I hoped I'd never return to this forsake place..
Overall, these levels are still going to push you to the limit and will be huge challenges, but they'll feel less unfair in 1.3. The aim of these changes is also to make it more possible that people can obtain a couple distinct achievements (lol).
Onwards..
News of the 1.3 public beta will come out on Steam and Discord when it's ready! Anyone will be able to participate, but you should note that the main goal is to test controller functionality. You can go for achievements early if you so desire and test out the other features, but it's going to be important for this update for several controllers on several different machines to be tested just to make sure this works properly. The new controller support is partially handled by Steam, so it should be fine, but this kind of thing is quite error-prone.
Thanks so much for following development!
