Mysteries of Old Tokyo changes
Today is April 26. If I remember correctly, it has been almost exactly a year since I dusted off my pack of antique Tokyo postcards and thought: Maybe I should do something with these?
Now here we are 12 months later with an end result I never dreamed of. I'm so excited for the full release and to be finally able to share the whole thing with the world. (Excited, and, naturally, extremely nervous, but...)
Release Date Confirmed
Beta testing is proceeding smoothly and unless there are any last minute bugs, we should be in a good state for release in May.
As a result, I'm excited to announce the release date:
Thursday 14 May!
Thank you to everyone so far who has wishlisted, played the demo, or helped out with testing. As always, please feel free to join us on Discord if you have any thoughts or encounter any issues.
Build approved by Valve
In more good news, today the beta build was approved for release by Valve, so everything should be clear for release.
Demo v3.0.4 updates
A new build is live on the demo branch. There's a whole new scene when you unlock part of a spirit's story - for the first time, read the full first chapter of both Kasuga and Eitou's backstories! Plus, a whole host of quality of life improvements and bug fixes.
Improvements
New dialogue scene when unlocking a spirit narrative.
Added windowed mode (toggle with shortcut or in settings).
Improved 3D treasure viewer with 2 axis rotation.
Added right-click context menu/copy to clipboard functionality for most text fields.
Improved overworld map, which is larger and makes better use of screen space. Stations/postcards now shown on a layer above the Shitamachi submap button.
Intro text when arriving at a postcard location for the first time.
When viewing an image with text, clicking the “Text” button will show the text in the image as a textbox.
Stations are now included in the Directory.
Added “Click anywhere to skip” text when printer is printing.
Notification in encyclopedia now flashes when updated.
Normalised audio for more consistent sound.
Spirit statements are now numbered to match the hint system.
Notes now have a scroll bar. You can add up to 50 notes.
Notes now save the color between sessions.
Characters no longer show in the biography browser if not yet met.
Removed:
Removed stamina/hotel mode.
Bug fixes
Tons of minor improvements and fixes in preparation for release - too many to list!
Encyclopedia can now be reopened in tutorial when checking text files for “Tokyo Station”.
Fixed a bug with similarity finder areas being placed slightly too high.
Fixed a bug with duplicate character unlock data.
Improved performance on map screen.
Disabled pins are no longer clickable on map.
Tweaked the tight cluster of stations around Okachimachi to make it easier to click.
Removed images from spirit report evidence box
“Meet spirit” achievement should now only unlock when spirit is actually encountered in the world.
Tweaks to Similarity Finder, especially to fix portrait mode.
Made “Analyse” and “Encyclopedia” buttons more distinct in similarity finder.
Tasks involving a station now have consistent numbering (not all the same number)
Known issues
Steam Deck still has a few issues which I will aim to fix before release:
The up/down scroll buttons on scroll bar components don't work properly. However, you can still scroll by dragging the scroll bar handle or clicking in the scroll bar as usual.
If you use the on-screen keyboard during play, when you quit the game, you will go to a black screen with the options "Steam" and "Abort Game". Just press the Steam button on your device to open the menu and get back to your library.
