Global Rescue changes
Today we're giving you a first glimpse into the current state of development of Global Rescue. Until the release, we will be publishing regular dev blogs in which we will introduce you to the most exciting new features and revisions.
Today's dev blog focuses on a topic that has been requested particularly often in feedback: connecting the road to the base so that vehicles are no longer teleported onto the road when they deploy.
How it works
After placing your base on the map, you can now select where you want the entrance to be located at the edge of the base. You can then place the road wherever you want and select a connection to the road:
A new intersection will now be created at the desired location, or existing intersections will be extended:
Once everything is set up and you have confirmed the construction of the base with the connection, you now have the option in build mode to place the exact roads for the base. Players of City Bus Manager may already be familiar with this system :)
It is also possible to build multiple exits to connect different roads and improve the infrastructure. When departing, the vehicles select the best exit in order to get to the scene as quickly as possible.
The vehicles now drive smoothly out of the base and also return realistically:
Fun fact
Originally, the base was completely separate from the 3D map, similar to City Bus Manager. At that time, you could switch between the base and the map with the camera, and the base was surrounded by fog. We therefore surrounded the base with a road so that the vehicles could leave the base straight ahead and then spawn on the map:
However, we were not satisfied with this solution as it took away a lot of immersion and caused some technical problems. Two weeks before the final recordings for the reveal trailer had to be completed, we therefore completely redesigned the system. Thanks to many night shifts, we managed to place the bases directly on the map in time and were able to announce it in the trailer. This is also the reason why the road connection did not yet work in the demo.
Outlook
Of course, we have been working on many other topics and will see you next year in the upcoming DevBlogs. Feel free to write us in the comments which topic interests you most in the next DevBlog or if you have specific questions about development.
We are now taking a break for Christmas. We wish you a Merry Christmas, relaxing holidays and a Happy New Year!
