From The Dark changes
This update focuses on visual improvements and polish, along with some tweaks. Floor 4 of the Buried Desert and Green Valleys will remain locked; region progression can be expected to continue in the next update.
Major Changes
Each class now has their own ability, triggered with SPACE.
Labyrinths are now decorated with old lab equipment and pipes.
Buried Desert is now decorated with stalagmites, stalactites, and old temple pillars.
Green Valleys is now decorated with fireflies.
Settings now allow individual sound sliders: Master, Game, Ambience, Enemy, Environment, NPCs, Player, Weapons.
Gameplay Changes
You now gain +1 Light Aura for every 3 levels.
Starting Light Aura (before class modifiers) has been increased from 3 -> 6.
Owl damage reduced from 16 -> 12.
Golden Helmet defense reduced from 12 -> 10.
Elemental Crystal bonus magic damage reduced from 6 -> 5.
Paladin has been nerfed slightly.
Mage light recovery reduced from 2x -> 1.5x.
The pulse from Electric Pulse now originates from the item's tip, rather than the center of the screen.
Angel Pillar of Fire collision adjusted.
Angel spawn chance has been reduced.
Scorpions now inflict poison.
Scorchers now inflict burning.
Skeleton parry window increased from 0.1175s -> 0.125s.
Skeleton Scout now has more idling time between walks.
Skeleton Scout move speed increased from 200 cm/s -> 250 cm/s.
Skeleton Archer fire base delay reduced from 1.5s -> 1.25s.
Skeleton Archer fire deviation delay reduced from 0.5s -> 0.3s.
Guardian & Forest Guardian now have slightly less delay between attacks.
Lightkeep's room has been redecorated, preventing corner-cheesing.
Zombie + Variants move speed reduced from 180 cm/s -> 160 cm/s.
Defier has been added to Green Valleys floor 1 and up.
Visual Changes
Parrying now has a sound and an effect.
The Steel Sword model and its similar variants have been improved. Hell's Blade remains the exception.
The Steel Dagger and the Golden Dagger models have been improved.
The Wooden Bow model and its similar variants have been improved.
The Flaming Staff model has been remade.
Most parry animations have been extended by ~0.3-0.5s to give more time for follow-up attacks.
The following enemies' animations have been touched up or redone: All Skeletons, Cursed Soldier, Hollow, Reaper, Loner, Guardian + Forest Guardian, Zombie.
Owl's eyes now glow in the dark.
Adjusted Labyrinth tile and brick sprites to feel more abandoned.
Antenna ping and Lightkeep Support attack now glow and fade.
Poison and Burning effects now have on-screen overlays.
Skeleton Scout alarm wire is now a copper color rather than black.
Temple Golem beam windup now has a particle effect.
Human NPCs now blink. No more blank stares.
Burning enemies now properly emit light.
Fire particles now have smoke.
Sound Changes
Enemy & chest sounds are much quieter through walls.
Chests now have an opening sound.
Crates now have a smash sound.
Log Eruption now has more crunch.
Perpetuation use sound updated.
Temple Dagger cast sound adjusted.
Starry Blade cast sound adjusted.
Orb Staff cast sound updated.
Orb Staff despawn sound updated.
Golden Touch cast sound updated.
Flower Sword cast sound updated.
Flaming Ring trigger sound updated.
Zhesta explode sound adjusted.
Skeleton Scout now plays a sound when alarming nearby skeletons.
Lightkeep and Sentinel's laser shots are now quieter.
Village Knights now have a voice.
Lightkeep's melee attacks now have sound.
Story Changes
16 journals have been added.
Labyrinth, Buried Desert, and Green Valleys journals have been updated.
The Mage icon has been changed from blue to purple.
Fixes & Optimizations
Negative regen now damages you properly.
Zombies and Mimics should no longer freeze movement.
All point lights on enemies now have reduced attenuation, which should help with performance.
Fixed enemy staggers flickering when animation completes.
That's all for this update. Expect v0.4 to consist of BD/GV Floor 4, new rooms and traps, a new BD F1 boss, enhancements/inscriptions from Aaron, and a more lively village.
