Update's now out, and there's quite a bit to talk about here, so let's get started with the good stuff.

CLASS SYSTEM

Introducing four new play-styles: Warrior, Mage, Archer, or Paladin. Each specializes in their own area; warriors are excellent with melee and tanking damage, mages are great with visibility and locking down rooms, archers can reach high DPS in exchange for vulnerability, and paladins prioritize survival.

Class-specific powers are not paired with this yet, but can be expected in v0.3.

OFFHAND ABILITIES

This is still relatively new and experimental, but starting now, offhand items will begin having their own passive abilities. In the example above, Scout's Eye will now project light on whatever enemy you're looking at.

The total number of abilities is small right now, and most commonly you'll find Chained Down and Chest Finder, but over time, I hope for most offhand items to have their own unique ability. If this system just doesn't end up fitting well, you can expect it to be reverted.

3 NEW FLOORS

While in the roadmap, Buried Desert Floor 4 and Green Valleys Floor 4 were planned to release with v0.2, I simply didn't have enough time to get everything I wanted done. Most of it is completed, but I'd hate to push this update back further to get it polished and tightened up, so for now you can enjoy what is done.

With this update, you can step into 3 fresh floors with a few new rooms. Battle 13 new enemies, discover roughly 60 new items, and conquer three new bosses. Side note: Green Valleys Floor 2 had a bug where completing never really marked it as 'complete', so if you pick up where you left off, you may need to replay this floor.

The Green Valleys has also received a slight visual update, where it may now generate bioluminescent flowers and grass.

You can expect Buried Desert Floor 4 and Green Valleys Floor 4 to arrive in v0.3, along with a big handful of new visual changes as outlined in the roadmap.

OTHER CHANGES

  • Enemy hit flash has been decreased in brightness to be easier on the eyes

  • Lightkeep's collision handling has been semi-reworked, and he should now attack quicker

  • Haffor should be easier to hit

  • Base melee range (and bonus range) has been slightly increased

  • Giant Bee is now slightly weaker and shoots slightly slower

  • Ghoul now has less health

  • Wendigo damage has been substantially increased

  • All bosses now grant a little more XP on death

  • Majority items and enemies have received sounds

  • 11 journals have been added

  • Enemies no longer shove each other violently (rest in peace jank)

  • Lightkeep Floor 2 intro dialogue has been updated

  • The Keeper received 4 new upgrade levels, increasing her max capacity from 80 -> 150

  • Snake removed (i did not like it)

  • When near dead (1/3 of your health or lower), there will now be heavy breathing and a heartbeat

  • Floor traps now spawn a little less frequently but do much more damage

  • Two new tracks have been added to the village

  • Many "bonus damage" items have been reworked to grant bonus damage to specific areas of combat (melee, ranged, magic)

  • Several items have had their stats tweaked

  • The Molecular Displacement Device has a reworked ability: first use, place a marker where you're standing, and on second use, warp to that marker, destroying it

  • Lightning and guitar strums are now a bit more pixelated, adding to the bloxel feel

OPTIMIZATION & FIXES

  • From The Dark now runs on DX11, improving performance on lower-end devices

  • Items stored in the Keeper are now less resource-heavy, allowing for lower-end devices to store more loot at a time

  • A V-Sync setting has been added to the settings menu

  • Fixed some staffs not working in physically lower rooms

  • Electric Pulse sound no longer clips

  • Lightkeep's arms should now spin independent of client FPS

  • Flimsy Wand's Whirlwind ability no longer blocks projectiles

  • Fixed a bug where the potion in slot C would not be properly destroyed on use

  • Wendigo reach has been fixed so it no longer hits you 100% of the time

That's all for now, travelers! You can expect v0.3 to come out in February as listed in the roadmap. Take care.
