Daniel here.

Let me announce that the first major update for VOID/BREAKER, codenamed HARD RESET, will launch on February 17th.

It has been a few months since my last update. Since then, I have been deep in development mode putting together VOID/BREAKER’s biggest update yet. HARD RESET introduces a new Zone to fight your way through, an epic story continuation, and adds a brand new weapon. You’ll also encounter new enemies, challenging new enemy variants, and a fresh set of modules to experiment with. And one more special feature: something that has been heavily requested by the community. I think you’ll love it.

Zone 4 ||||||||||||||--- Loading

Until now, VOID/BREAKER has taken you through three zones, with Zone 3 ending on a nasty (Yes, I know) cliffhanger.

HARD RESET picks up shortly after that moment.

If you have not beaten the story yet, this is your chance to avoid a heavy spoiler. I will clearly mark where the spoiler ends, so don’t worry.

Last chance.

Final warning.

If you spoil this for yourself, you cannot blame me at this point.

Zone 4 takes place right after the final events of zone 3, where Desmond and 1473 narrowly escape IDRIS. Instead of freedom, they awaken to a city in ruins, overtaken by the AI, and discover a new objective that pushes the narrative into its next chapter.

Now… about that one thing you kept asking for…

At the very early stages of development, I actually experimented with the idea of wallrunning. There was a rough prototype where I tested how it might feel in VOID/BREAKER, and you can see a bit of that below. In the end, I decided against adding to the game. My vision for VOID/BREAKER was to keep movement grounded, readable, and very deliberate.

But then I released the game into early access, and one thing became very clear, many of you loved the movement, and wanted more!

After seeing how many of you connected with the movement systems, and how often wallrunning came up in your requests, I knew I had to make it work.

So… wallrunning is officially coming to VOID/BREAKER as a COMMUNITY VOICE UPDATE, and it will be available right from the start of Zone 4.

Adding wallrunning meant Zone 4 had to pivot slightly in its design to properly support it. Sightlines, combat spaces, and traversal routes all needed to work with this new freedom of movement.

It added extra development time, but it was absolutely worth it. If you have more ideas or suggestions you want to share, I am always listening. Feel free to drop your thoughts in our Discord and help shape where VOID/BREAKER goes next.

6 New Modules

HARD RESET also introduces six brand-new modules, opening up even more possibilities for crazy build making and experimentation.

For now, I am only going to share the names of the new modules. Some of you will probably be able to figure out what they do just from that alone.

If you have theories or ideas, feel free to share them in our Discord. I am genuinely curious to see what you come up with.

Why “HARD RESET”? Origin of the name

One important thing to clear up right away. This update does NOT wipe your progress. Your save, unlocks and progress are completely safe. The name HARD RESET comes from the story.

Without spoiling too much, the events of Zone 4 represent a lore-level reset. A major shift in Des’ understanding of the loop, the world, and IDRIS himself. The rules are changing, and the stakes are very different from what came before.

What About the Rest of the Roadmap?

You might have noticed that some features and elements from the roadmap are not mentioned in this dev diary. That is intentional.

All roadmap items planned for HARD RESET are on track. This dev diary is simply focused on a specific set of highlights, rather than covering everything at once.

HARD RESET is a large update, and splitting the information into smaller dev diary entries lets me go into more detail and give each feature the attention it deserves.

This is Part 1 of the HARD RESET dev diary. Part 2 will be coming before launch, where I will cover the remaining roadmap features and improvements. So keep an eye out for the next Dev Diary.

Community Hall of Fame

Before wrapping things up, I want to highlight some of the incredible clips, builds, and moments you have been sharing on our Discord and on Reddit.

Seeing how you play, break, and experiment with VOID/BREAKER constantly influences how the game evolves.

This one genuinely made me laugh. Watching a build get so out of control that the game starts hitting its own limits is exactly the kind of chaos VOID/BREAKER is meant to create.

This humanized take on IDRIS is such a cool interpretation, and seeing characters from VOID/BREAKER reimagined like this means a lot to me.

I really hope this gets some love from the rest of the community. Shoutout to Fesdem (Reddit) / Fenix NT (Discord)

Facts.

Well, that escalated quickly. 😅

HARD RESET is the biggest step forward yet for VOID/BREAKER, and I cannot wait for you to get your hands on Zone 4, try wallrunning for yourself, and start tinkering with the new modules.

As always, thank you for the feedback, the clips, and the constant push to make this game better.

See you on February 17th.

Daniel
