Usurper Reborn v0.61.5 -- Beta Update
A targeted balance and quality-of-life patch driven by your reports. Two new features, a six-point NPC AI tune-up, and a sweeping localization pass that closes 15 untranslated surfaces in Hungarian, Spanish, French, and Italian.
New Features
Examine Team Members
Team Corner [X] Examine now shows a full read on any teammate: identity (class, race, sex, age, level, specialization), alignment and faith, current mood and impression of you, top personality traits, marriage status and children, plus their combat stat block.
The Team Corner is where you decide who to recruit, sack, or promote. The examine view now actually helps you make that decision.
Fallen-Comrade Inheritance
When a teammate NPC dies of old age, their equipment and gold now transfer to the player team leader instead of vanishing.
On your next login you'll see a FALLEN COMRADE'S BEQUEST section listing what each fallen teammate left you, grouped by name. Items go to your inventory (overflow stays queued for next login when slots free up); gold gets added to your purse.
Online mode only.
Combat Balance
We pulled 965 combats of production telemetry to drive these.
Global picture
97.6% win rate, 12% of fights end in a single round, late-game players take basically zero damage. So no global difficulty drop.
Two specific items did need fixing
Abysswarden Constitution Buff
Abysswarden gets +3 Constitution per level (was +2), matching Cyclebreaker.
Telemetry showed Abysswardens taking 4x more damage per fight than Warriors or Sages, despite running a stamina-hungry ability kit. The lowest CON growth of any prestige melee was making it feel squishy even though death rate stayed low thanks to lifesteal.
Damage output untouched (still 2nd highest in the game). Existing characters benefit on future level-ups.
Giant Spider WebTrap Nerf
WebTrap stun chance reduced from 45% to 30%.
Floor 8 Giant Spiders had a 60% kill rate (3 deaths in 5 encounters) versus 0% on Floor 5. The 45% stun chance plus 2-round duration gave the spider two free hits against players who weren't yet ready to absorb them.
Stun mechanic preserved; just less frequent. Floor 8 should now feel comparable to Floor 5.
NPC AI Overhaul
A 174,535-decision telemetry pull from production NPCs revealed two compounding problems: low-level NPC teams were getting wiped at 76-100% death rates in team dungeon runs, and the survivors weren't training or leveling up enough to break the loop.
Team Dungeon Safety
NPCs below Level 5 no longer attempt team dungeon runs (they were 100% dying).
Sub-Level-20 teams target safer dungeon floors and skip the "brave / ambitious leader pushes one floor higher" bonus that was costing them their lives.
Wounded team leaders now retreat at 80% HP (was 70%) to give themselves a real buffer.
Progression Loop Unblocked
NPCs train at the gym roughly twice as often.
Gold barrier for gym training lowered from 50g to 20g so early-career NPCs can afford it.
NPCs who have enough XP to level up will now almost always do it instead of wandering to the inn.
Expected effect over the next few weeks: low-level NPC teams should survive their dungeon runs at rates similar to the 40+ level band, NPCs should accumulate gear and stats more naturally, and you'll see more variety in NPC behavior overall.
Localization
A player ran captures in a Hungarian session and flagged 15 distinct surfaces that were still rendering English. All fixed in this release, with matching translations into Hungarian, Spanish, French, and Italian.
Combat:
Monster death flavor pool ("falls in combat!" and 3 variants)
Victory and multi-kill banners ("Victory!", "Double kill!", up to "PENTA KILL!" and the {N} MONSTERS SLAIN! fallback)
Online player-fallen broadcasts and the carried-back-to-the-Inn news event
Equipment slot names in the loot comparison window
Class names displayed everywhere:
20 separate sites were passing the raw English enum name into translated templates ("Hungarian-template Assassin" instead of "Hungarian-template Orgyilkos"). All now use the localized class name helper.
This covers grudge confrontations, arena opponents, crystal ball scrying, mercenary lists, castle siege displays, ending screens, and more.
Dialogue and Romance:
All 28 deep-talk player questions ("Where are you from originally?" and the rest of the first slot)
Compliment, confession, kiss, and proposition NPC reactions
Marriage proposal accepted / not-ready / rejected responses
Wedding ceremony messages and the "kingdom celebrates your union" news
The Hungarian pronoun bleed in intimate scenes ("She feléd fordul" no longer happens; Hungarian now correctly drops the subject pronoun since the verb conjugation carries it)
Other surfaces:
Equip messages ("Moved X to inventory" and the validation errors)
Child interaction menu ("Spend time" / "Rename")
Home rest status ("today" -> "ma" in Hungarian)
Location names in the MUD streaming prompt (Mudlet, TinTin++, etc.)
141 new English keys, with full translations into all four supported languages. Format-arg placeholders verified to match across all five languages.
Reporting Bugs
In-game: press! from any location, or type /bug. You can cancel by pressing Enter on a blank line.
See you in the dungeon.
