It's been a few weeks since the Unbowed demo launched on Steam, and I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has downloaded, played, streamed, reviewed, or wishlisted the game.

It's been a few weeks since the Unbowed demo launched on Steam, and I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has downloaded, played, streamed, reviewed, or wishlisted the game.

Launching the demo was a huge milestone for me as a solo developer. Watching people explore Smuggler's Caverns, fight The Hunger, and share their thoughts has been both exciting and incredibly valuable.

Since launch, I've been gathering feedback from Steam reviews, forum posts, Discord discussions, YouTube videos, and livestreams. While there has been a lot of encouraging feedback about the atmosphere, world, and overall concept, players have also helped identify several areas where Unbowed can be improved.

My current focus for the first major demo update includes:

  • Improving combat feel and impact

  • Refining enemy hit reactions and heavy weapon feedback

  • Addressing bugs and player-reported issues

  • Performance optimization, especially in Dead Man's Rest

  • Improving onboarding and player guidance

  • Additional lighting and visibility improvements

  • General quality-of-life polish

Some of these changes are already underway. Recent improvements include stronger heavy hit reactions for the Bruiser, adjustments to hitstop, visibility improvements for the lantern, and fixes for several level issues reported after launch.

One piece of feedback that stood out was that some players felt lost early in the experience. Because of that, I'm exploring ways to improve onboarding and introduce core mechanics more naturally without sacrificing the sense of exploration that is central to the game.

I'm also continuing to evaluate combat feedback. My goal is for each class to feel distinct while delivering the weight and responsiveness players expect from a Soulslike.

Development on Unbowed continues, and the feedback from the demo has helped shape my priorities moving forward. I'm excited to continue improving the experience and share more updates as development progresses. Thank you again for playing Unbowed and helping shape its development.
