The Merchant's Eden changes
The last update wasn't that long ago, but I kept right on going. This time it's all about Tower Defense! Over the past weeks, I've been completely focused on the combat and defense mechanics and have significantly expanded them.
🎯 Tower Defense Update
In the last update, I briefly teased the new enemy types, now I want to tell you more about them.
👾 Three Enemy Types with Different Tactics
Thieves are the simplest form of enemies. They run straight to the market, steal coins, and disappear. They don't attack anyone, but don't underestimate their speed, especially in larger groups!
Bandits are armed and dangerous. They attack soldiers, citizens, and merchants on their way to the market. Protect your city, or more and more will flee.
Berserkers are the toughest enemies. They withstand multiple hits, move more slowly, and attack less frequently. Enemies that will challenge you in the later stages of the game!
The enemies now come in shades of red instead of plain black. Additionally, attack waves have been completely redesigned: larger groups, mixed forces, and attacks from multiple directions simultaneously. Your defenses will be put to the test!
🏰 Towers for Every Game Stage
The barracks from the last update are central to setting up your defenses—without them, no soldiers are available to you.
Additionally, I've reworked the towers, there are now two:
- The WatchtowerAvailable in the early game phase and your first real defensive structure. It's affordable, provides space for one soldier, but cannot be integrated into walls.
- The Defense TowerThe heavyweight for later stages. Two soldiers, double the firepower, but only available once your city has grown.
⚖️ Combat System Polish
I've tweaked fire rates and accuracy, both for your soldiers and the attackers. Battles have become much more dynamic as a result, and strategic positioning now really pays off.
With this update, Tower Defense becomes a real gameplay pillar in The Merchant's Eden. I'm curious to see what defense strategies you'll develop!
And if you haven't already: Add the game to your Steam wishlist – it really helps a lot!
Thanks for being part of this journey 🙌 — Daniel
