Welcome back — and apologies for the gap.

There was no SITREP last week. We made a deliberate call not to post, because we didn't have the kind of content that would have justified one. These updates take real work to put together, and we've always preferred them to mean something rather than simply occupy the schedule. Posting for the sake of posting would have been a disservice to everyone — including us.

We may do that again if a week comes up thin. When it happens, don't read it as radio silence from a crew that has abandoned ship. Read it as the crew being below decks, working. The hull is very much intact.

Today, however, is a different story. We come back with actual gameplay content, a patch, and quite a bit to say.

Latest Patch

Some of you may have noticed a patch landed quietly yesterday. Here is what was in it.

  • Added new Midway mission generator options.

More on this below — it deserves its own section.

  • Added a new option to configure the maximum framerate.

A practical quality-of-life addition that a number of you have been asking about. Capping the framerate prevents the engine from pushing your hardware harder than the game actually requires, which translates directly into lower temperatures and quieter fans — also relevant during longer sessions when the action is relatively quiet and the GPU would otherwise be spinning up for no good reason. Set it to something sensible for your setup and let it run.

  • Fixed SBD turret texture.

  • Small improvements to fighters vs. bomber behavior.

  • Fixed bad behaviours when clearing deck.

Tacview Library — Now Complete

A separate note on this one: all the 3D models required for TFA have now been added to the Tacview library, included in the latest Tacview patch. Your replays will now display the correct models rather than standing in with generic silhouettes.

For those who haven't tried it: Tacview is a third-party replay tool that lets you review engagements in an ACMI interface after the fact — reconstructing the full picture of what happened, where, and when. It pairs very naturally with a game like TFA, where the fog of war during play means you often only understand the full shape of an engagement afterward. The free version is entirely sufficient for use with TFA.

The Midway Generator Set

Those of you who have been following along will recall that we announced a Midway-focused branch of the mission generator in the last SITREP as a way to get the existing arsenal in front of you while the deeper scenario work continues. It is now in — here is how it works, and what to expect.

The Midway set operates on broadly the same principles as the Coral Sea generator, with a few meaningful differences.

First, force sizes scale up significantly. You may now find yourself facing a considerably larger number of enemy carriers than the Coral Sea set ever threw at you — and you will have more friendly carriers to work with in return. This is deliberate: part of the purpose of the Midway generator is to stress-test the game at higher force densities, and to give you a reason to actually use the full order of battle now available.
