Task Force Admiral - Vol.1: American Carrier Battles changes
Note & credit: Action screenshots were provided by players on the game’s Discord - today featuring Comrade Roman, Alan, Poodle07, George, munchlol and Foxman!
After a rather long and rather slow month of May for some of our team members, who had to go through a lot of rather exhausting personal issues, we are back with a new scenario making good use of the current assets, along with a preview of what is coming next.
New Scenario : Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold
We won't say too much about the new scenario so as not to spoil . But imagine, what if Fletcher had failed at Coral Sea - or more exactly, if Takagi had indeed struck Yorktown and Lexington instead of Sims and Neosho. What would that imply for Operation MO and the fate of Port Moresby? In this scenario, Halsey is running south as he did historically. But while this stroll down to the SOPAC area ultimately provided him with little excitement, as his only prospect was to disrupt the invasion of Ocean and Nauru islands, this time it is different.
Even though Nimitz is about to call him home in order to assist with the upcoming Battle of Midway, this time Halsey sees a lot of opportunities ahead, as the whole Japanese fleet assembled for Operation MO is now returning home to Rabaul and Truk. Foreseeing a bloody retribution, the Bull rushes west with his cruisers to strike at the heart of the enemy as he retires to safety.
Please do wreak havoc and take names, but beware of Rabaul's bombers! We couldn't really come up with a good reason to put the empty transports on the list of strategic objectives - going after them would be more of a typical Halsey coup d'éclat than an actual stake. But hopefully you will like the prospect of that juicy target-rich environment too, and try your best to sink as many enemy ships as possible without excessive bravado. Not too hard an assignment for now, but we will make it a bit tougher as mechanics are refined.
Right now we're working on a system that allows us to pre-program the AI in a way that will have it make raids the way we like them (aka with escorts, or without escorts like at Midway) so as to be able to make those Japanese attacks more interesting. Also note that a bug that prevented Rabaul from forming strikes in Wake up call at Tulagi has been corrected too. We are also working on the other strike options, all the stuff that is around the corner, but needs to be carefully designed not to create more problems than they solve.

A Look at What's Cooking
Finally, a quick glance at what we have been busy with lately. Of course, objects were and remain a priority, and a lot of new units had to be polished in order to be integrated in our upcoming "Kantai Kessen" scenario off Midway. The Emily will certainly make an impression in flight, especially with her torpedo loadout...!
But the big work was from Julien as Jean Baptiste, as they painfully did their best to recreate the layout of Henderson Field at the time of its capture and first extension in August 1942. And I think they nailed it. You tell us!
With Henderson Field nearing completion, and Rabaul soon to be made properly too, we will soon be able to extend operations to the Solomons. We will then complete the map with the extra airfields and installations we need, so as to make it a sight to behold - and remember. Thank you for sticking with us until then!
Bracer's BATTLESHIP COMMAND Releases on Early Access!
While we're at it, a word on a project we hold in particularly high regard - Battleship Command, by Bracer, also under the MicroProse banner.
We've been following this one since the very early days, well before there was anything to show the public, and watching Bracer build such a jewel of a game pretty much single-handedly has been nothing short of inspiring. The Scharnhorst, the gunnery, the fire-control work, the atmosphere on board - it is the kind of craftsmanship we can only admire.
Better still! You can grab Battleship Command at a small discount during the Fest whether you already own Task Force Admiral or have neither - so go check out its store page, give it a wishlist or take the plunge, and have fun living the life of a steel corsair!
Battleship Command x Task Force Admiral
We wish him a lot of luck - but he doesn't seem to need it with that kind of review score. Honored and happy to be on the same page. Don't you worry - we might meet again...
