changedSomehow, in the middle of all that festival madness, we also managed to jam a massive list of fixes, balance changes, and visual overhauls into this build. Here is what is rolling out this week in Update 0.0.143 :
changed💡 Visuals & Atmosphere (A Brand New Look!)Updated Lighting System: We have completely overhauled all in-game lights with a volumetrics system, and the game looks absolutely amazing . Go see the atmosphere for yourself!
added💡 Visuals & Atmosphere (A Brand New Look!)Steam Deck Performance: We’ve made a handful of small performance optimisations that offset the new lighting systems performance cost. Performance on the Deck remains phenomenal.
added💡 Visuals & Atmosphere (A Brand New Look!)Game Case Visibility: We added targeted lights to the game case to ensure it stays beautifully visible and atmospheric under the new lighting system.
added🎥 Camera & Control OverhaulsTop-Down Aiming is Live: You can now aim directly while in top-down mode! Enjoy the new perspective. Note: We are still playtesting this to balance the difficulty. Our resident Pool Pro, Benjamin, essentially didn't miss a single shot during playtesting last night... but he's a pro, so that's somewhat expected!

Somehow, in the middle of all that festival madness, we also managed to jam a massive list of fixes, balance changes, and visual overhauls into this build. Here is what is rolling out this week in Update 0.0.143:

💡 Visuals & Atmosphere (A Brand New Look!)

  • Updated Lighting System: We have completely overhauled all in-game lights with a volumetrics system, and the game looks absolutely amazing. Go see the atmosphere for yourself!

  • Steam Deck PerformanceWe’ve made a handful of small performance optimisations that offset the new lighting systems performance cost. Performance on the Deck remains phenomenal.
  • Game Case VisibilityWe added targeted lights to the game case to ensure it stays beautifully visible and atmospheric under the new lighting system.

🎥 Camera & Control Overhauls

  • Top-Down Aiming is LiveYou can now aim directly while in top-down mode! Enjoy the new perspective. Note: We are still playtesting this to balance the difficulty. Our resident Pool Pro, Benjamin, essentially didn't miss a single shot during playtesting last night... but he's a pro, so that's somewhat expected!
  • Aim Retention: Switching back to first-person mode from the top-down camera will no longer reset your aim.

⚙️ Mechanics & Balancing

  • Quick Shop Buff: The Quick Shop (i.e. Pocket Shop) is no longer a consumable! It now activates instantaneously, and you can use it regardless of your current consumable limit.

  • Overkill Coin Cap: We noticed coin generation was getting wildly out of hand. We have capped overkill coins to 50 before multipliers from permanent upgrades are applied. This will likely change to a scaling system based on your run depth in the future as we continue to balance.

  • Rail Physics Adjustments

We've cleaned up several physical issues on the bumpers, and Benjamin has confirmed the bounce angles and feel are much closer to real-life expectations.

    Under the Hood Note

We are still hunting a pesky bug where rail velocity gets overly dampened or hits zero - in short - the ball sometimes just stops on the rail. Fixing this permanently will likely require a bit of rethought into how we construct our tables. It's a top priority for the next couple of weeks, but these current tweaks should make things feel much better in the meantime!

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Out-of-Bounds SpawningFixed a bug where cloning balls near a rail could accidentally spawn them completely off the table. As a small team doing all our QA in-house, this one slipped past us before Next Fest, but it is officially sorted!
  • Multi-Monitor BootingFixed an issue where launching Spooker for the first time could cause it to initialize on the wrong monitor.
  • Keyboard Spin InputFixed a bug where trying to apply spin using the W and S keys would accidentally alter your shot force.
  • Trophy DuplicationFixed a UI exploit where rapidly clicking on the reward screen could duplicate a trophy.
  • Champion of ChanceFixed a bug preventing the Champion of Chance trophy from properly activating on boss tables.
  • Heckler of the Year TextCorrected the text description for Level 2 of this trophy. It now accurately reflects the power-up: "For every 7 points you score, your opponent loses 2 points. " (previously it incorrectly displayed 10).

We have a massive roadmap of changes on the way fueled directly by your Next Fest feedback. Thank you all again for making the festival such a historic milestone for our little team.

Good luck on the tables, and we'll see you next week with even more updates!
