Spanky "Bat-a-Swing" changes
We’ve heard your feedback and are excited to roll out our first significant update to the Spanky Bat-A-Swing demo! This patch focuses heavily on improving visual clarity, smoothing out the platforming experience, and—most importantly—optimizing the performance across various hardware setups, especially for those rocking the Steam Deck!
Changelog - Demo Version 0.1
General Improvements
We've put some polish on the core UI elements that help you stay on the beat:
New Beat Trackers Graphics: The visual feedback for the rhythm elements (both the main HUD display and the crosshair) has been redesigned to be clearer and cooler.
Iris Shot Refactor: The transition effects (Iris Shot) now look much smoother and more polished, helping maintain that snappy 1930s cartoon feel.
General Scene Optimization: We've done a deep dive to clean up assets and improve draw calls across the demo levels. Please help us test this! If you're running on low-end hardware or a Steam Deck, let us know if you notice any positive (or negative!) changes in frame rate or loading times.
Level Design Tweaks
We've tweaked a couple of levels based on playtesting to make the flow and rhythm challenges feel more natural and responsive:
Skallywag's Return: Minor level design adjustments.
Swamped!: Small level design tweaks.
The Afterlife
Better Ghost Distribution: Ghosts in phase 2 now have a better spawn distribution.
How to get the update: Your demo should update automatically via Steam! If you haven't, download it now.
Thank you again for all the Wishlists and for jumping into Spanky's angry world. Keep the feedback coming in the comments below or in our Discord!
