SCP – Containment Breach changes
A little over a month after release we're excited to share a new small batch of QoL features, improvements and - of course - bug fixes.
Subtitles
Trying to make out dialogue can be hard when some poor soul is screaming for their life on the other end of the facility, while SCP-173 is opening doors behind you and SCP-079 is on the intercom at the same time. That's why this update introduces the option to enable subtitles, making it easier to understand what everyone is saying.
Steam post image Closed captions are also included, to make it easier for hearing-impaired people to enjoy the game!
This feature was almost entirely implemented by someone from the community and we hope to be able to provide subtitles for our various supported languages in the coming weeks as well!
Upgraded Textures
Before v1.3.12, most UI elements always rendered at the same size, this made them appear incredibly small on modern, high resolutions. However, simply scaling up the existing UI elements turns them into a blurry, low-detail mess. This is why, with this update, we're introducing a first batch of improved, high-resolution textures. These have been painstakingly recreated (often from scratch) by our main artist Inward3D. The focus was on keeping everything as faithful as possible and I personally think he did a great job at it. But you be the judge:
HUD
Inventory Icons
Achievement Icons
For the achievements we've also decided to colorize them. The colored versions are only used on the Steam side of things, but they definitely help spicing the game's visual presence up a bit!
If you've grown particularly fond of the new colored achievement icons, with this little mod you'll also be able to enjoy them in-game!
This showcase only includes a small selection. We'd love to hear your thoughts on them!
Steam Rich Presence
Rich presence for Discord has been a thing since release, but now Steam has received the same treatment! Unfortunately, Steam is a bit less extensive in what it enables, but now you'll be able to stalk your friends and know exactly what part of the facility they're currently in, directly through Steam!
showmap Command
Requested by the speedrunning community, the showmap command renders a little 2D overview of the facility, marking important locations (including the player's position) with various colors.
Its implementation is based on the speedrunning mod.
Minor Additions
A view bobbing slider has been added for additional accessibility, it controls the amount the camera sways and tilts when moving.
Spanish (LatAm) and Polish dubs are now available.
Czech, French and Spanish (LatAm) text translations are now available.
Anti-aliasing has been reimplemented as SSFXAA (should result in a much smoother image with no artifacting).
[c]unlockcheckpoints[/c] command.
Map seed is now visible on the ending screen.
Mods can now override shaders.
Mods can now include their own localizations.
Bug Fixes
A small selection of particularly relevant bugs, for a more complete view consult the commit history on GitHub:
Fixed somewhat frequent crashes related to SCP-1499.
Fixed items sometimes falling through the floor. (Particularly noticeable with SCP-500-01 in the maintenance tunnels.)
Fixed the MTF being able to lock the player in certain rooms.
Fixed some incredibly rare seeds still being unbeatable.
Fixed the door model missing a face.
Fixed multi-line text in languages not using spaces.
Fixed mouse issues with 16:9 aspect ratio on the Steam deck.
STATUS REPORT: Scripting System
The scripting system remains the most anticipated feature and our top priority. Some important groundwork has already been laid and it's likely to be smooth sailing from here on out. I'm still positive we will be able to release it within (likely towards the end of) April!
THANK YOU
3 months ago I never could've imagined where this project stands now. I want to thank everyone for the incredible support we've received so far. It's all of you, who managed to turn this simple update of a 14 year old game into a flourishing community with almost 500 workshop submissions already!
If you'd like to chat about the game, get help with modding, share something cool you've made or report a bug, head on over to our Discord server: https://discord.gg/scpcb
Thank you all, again, from the bottom of my heart. :)
