Prometheus Wept changes
Hi there,
If you're arriving here from Steam's cyberpunk fest, welcome! It's great to be a part of it, and I figured it'd be a good time to lay out some relevant information.
To What Extent Is Prometheus Wept Cyberpunk?
The basic premise is that on a near-future earth, what appears to be a devastating cyber-attack wipes out the majority of our digital technology in the space of a day. This throws human society into chaos, resulting in greatly reduced population, social order and technology. So, the setting combines aspects of post-apocalyptic and cyberpunk.
Cyberspace & Artificial Intelligences:
Cyberspace exists in the form of a limited number of computer networks which have survived the event. On occasion, it will be necessary to enter cyberspace, which your character has the rare capability to do. While allies protect you from physical world threats, you must use a range of scripts (abilities) to overcome system security, and commandeer physical-world systems like defences and doors.
In some of the surviving, but corrupted networks an artificial intelligence has been born. Typically, the AI is a twisted development of the system it grew out of, and they tend to be unknowable, capricious, and dangerous to nearby human settlement. If you fail to negotiate with an AI, or destroy the physical servers which host them, you can choose to face the AIs on their own turf.
\In Act 1, you can discover a hidden, old-world research lab, guarded by Hec8, an AI which grew out of the facility's security system. It is obsessed with maintaining the lab's secrets, a tendency which lead to the original staff's demise and potentially yours, if you are not careful.\
Act 1 has a western feel, with an AI that's only dangerous to those who trespass on its territory. Later acts have an increased level of technology and AIs which pose a wider and more significant threat to fallen humanity.
Corporations & High Tech Criminality:
Humanity is still in the process of recovering from the event, and as such, no large corporations have survived or emerged from the chaos. If this aspect of cyberpunk is very important to you, it's unlikely Prometheus Wept is for you.
Body Modification & Transhumanism:
Apart from an implant which allows the protagonist's to enter cyberspace, body modification is not an element in the world. The technology level simply doesn't exist for it. There is an extensive character development system, however, comprised of stats, skills, many perks, and impactful activated abilities.
The State of the Game:
Around 10 meaningful updates have been made to the game since launch. These have been community driven, focused on improving quality of life, polishing systems, improving stability. There have been some neat additions, too, such as a drone for the main character. In my view, act 1 is in pretty good shape now.
In more recent months, the focus has shifted to preparing the first part of act 2, where you must navigate the “Valley of Wrath” an area occupied by old-world humans who has been maintained in a bizarre half life by corrupted tech implants. Here, you must navigate a deadly gauntlet of undead political extremists and lifestyle influencers.
Steam post image This major update will be available in the coming weeks. The first price increase will occur after the cyberpunk fest ends, in anticipation of the update.
Community Driven Development:
I'm very interested in feedback in order to improve the game, and very active on the forum, so if Prometheus Wept sounds like a game you would enjoy, please consider supporting a small, hard-working developer and letting me know what you think.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback, do let me know – I'll get back to you!
Thanks for reading,
Daithi
