Voidhunters! Set the guns & cues aside for a moment and let’s dive in into the latest updates:

Dynamic camera system

In order to make things more cinematic, we’ve added a dynamic camera system to Pool of Madness, which we’re currently updating.

It gives us better control of the camera at specific times for that extra cinematic feel, e.g. when you’re pocketing the final ball at the end of the ritual, or when the cue ball is shooting across the table after being spit out from the pocket.

New help system

Since the game features many non-standard pool mechanics and roguelite elements, and we need to balance the mystery and gameplay clarity, we've been working hard on improving the way we let the players discover the rules of the game.

For this reason, we’ve created a brand new system consisting of:

  • in-game help

The new help system allows us to introduce and explain mechanics gradually, in little chunks, without breaking the gameplay flow (and use that cool slo-mo effect a bit more often).

  • a journal

The plan is to expand the journal with new entries as you discover new gameplay features.

  • context panels

This one’s on the soon-to-do list. We had this one planned for a while and it made its way into many demo feedback forms - being able to learn more about the balls and other elements on the table by hovering over them. Stay tuned.

Other updates

We’ve added a new mechanics crucial for any pool game - volcanoes - to make your life harder and the rituals more explosive:

…and some other things, but that's a story for another time!

Keep watch on those wireless stations - more news to follow - and don't forget to apply for the new playtest on the game's page!
