UI / UX Overhaul Progress Update!
Posted by: That One Guy Loki from That One Game Studio
Hey everyone! Loki here again, your late-night solo dev, shopkeeper, and proud owner of that cat who may or may not run the place now. I hope you all had an awesome Thanksgiving holiday! I spent mine surrounded by family and friends as we hosted a little get-together… which was great right up until my water heater decided to retire early over the weekend... 😅 Nothing like troubleshooting home plumbing right before settling back into game dev.
But things are back on track now, and I’ve got a cozy little progress update to share with you all.
UI/UX Overhaul Continues!
Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been deep in a big polish pass for the game’s UI and overall usability. The goal here is to slowly lift the game out of its prototype feel and give it a more cohesive identity and something that fits the shop vibe and the customization-heavy fun of Pocket Racer Shop Sim.
This is the kind of work that doesn’t always make flashy headlines, but it massively improves the feel of the game.
A Better Workbench Experience
One of the big areas getting love is the workbench. This is where so much of the game’s magic happens while tinkering, comparing parts, swapping setups, and chasing that perfect build. So it deserved an experience that felt more tactile and immersive.
Here’s a little look at the new animated camera flow and part interaction work in progress:
You’ll see:
new camera transitions
clearer focus shifts as you highlight components
improved layout styling and readability
Actual part visuals with an under the hood look
It’s already feeling a lot nicer to use, and this is just the beginning.
Building a More Cohesive UI Direction
Along with the workbench, the entire UI is getting a consistent visual treatment:
unified color themes
flashier styling
more intentional layout
Piece by piece, the game is starting to match the vision that’s been in my head.
What’s Next?
This UI overhaul will continue to roll out across:
Pause Menu
HUD
Booster Packs
Shop Daily Summary
TrackLab
Once enough of these systems are updated, I’ll start refreshing the Steam screenshots and capturing footage for a new trailer.
Thanks for reading!
Hope your holiday season is treating you well, and thanks as always for following along. I know this is a smaller update but its paving the way towards a bigger unveiling coming soon.
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the discussion section! And if you haven’t yet — please Wishlist Pocket Racer Shop Sim to support the journey.
More updates soon (and yes, the shop cat is still supervising).
