From the Developer

This week's major update introduces the very first playable version of PLAYNESE's Multiplayer Game Center!

This is only the beginning of ONLINE PLAY, and I'd like to grow it carefully over time. Rather than releasing dozens of unfinished multiplayer features, I've decided to start with a smaller foundation, gather feedback, fix issues quickly through the weekly updates, and continue expanding the Game Center with new cooperative and competitive activities.

Because this is the first public version of multiplayer, please save your game before playing online for the time being. While I've tested the system extensively, unexpected bugs or connection issues may still occur.

If you discover any bugs, connection problems, typos, or have ideas for future multiplayer games, I'd greatly appreciate hearing about them on the Discord server. Your feedback will directly help improve future updates. :) Light

Multiplayer Game Center

When entering the Game Center only, while connected online, you'll appear as an online player and can see how many other players are currently inside the Game Center.

Arcade machines marked with オンライン above them are online multiplayer games. Entering one of these games places you into a lobby where you can invite another player before starting.

Some multiplayer games also allow you to choose your difficulty before inviting another player, and you'll be able to view information about your teammate or opponent, including:

  • Level

  • Mana

  • Gold

  • Preferred Japanese level

You may also notice several unfinished arcade machines around the Game Center. These are multiplayer games already in development that will be completed in future updates.

New Mini-Games

Online Multiplayer

Hiragana Arena

  • Race against another player.

  • Select the correct hiragana character.

  • First player to reach 10 points wins.

Snake Team

  • Work together to collect the correct Japanese characters.

  • Your snake grows longer with every correct answer.

  • Avoid crashing into walls, yourself, your teammate, or incorrect characters.

Archer Challenge

  • A cooperative Japanese word guessing game inspired by Hangman.

  • Work together to guess the correct answer.

  • Three mistakes ends the game.

  • Each team has three ZAP charges that can be used when you're unsure.

Offline Mini-Game

Survival Shooter

  • Fight against endless waves of zombie characters.

  • Earn money while surviving.

  • Build and upgrade your own base before the zombies overwhelm you.

Looking Ahead

All multiplayer mini-games will continue receiving improvements, additional Japanese learning content, balance adjustments, and network optimizations.

To help keep PLAYNESE family friendly for learners of all ages, there is currently no in-game chat or voice chat. If you'd like to communicate while playing together, please use Discord or another voice chat application.

Private rooms and password-protected matches are also being considered for future updates based on community feedback.

Firewall Information

Some firewall or network configurations may prevent certain online games from connecting correctly.

Please do not disable your firewall. Instead, if you experience connection problems, let me know on Discord so I can continue improving compatibility and investigate alternative networking methods.

Anki Idle Update

The automatic JLPT N5 deck continues to grow. I also would like to complete the Anki Decks for each level soon.

JLPT N5 (Auto Anki)

  • 200 new cards added

  • Increased from 700 → 900 cards

Bug / Typo Fixes

Thank you to everyone on Discord who continues reporting bugs and typos.

Fixes

  • Corrected furigana in Kanji #70, Sentence #1.

  • Fixed NPC Nina's dialogue by removing an extra 「こ」 from 「こんにちは」.

  • Corrected furigana for JLPT N4 Quiz #98 (道).

  • Anki Idle now automatically hides while playing mini-games for a cleaner interface.

Development Notes

This multiplayer release is only the first step toward a much larger online Game Center.

Over the coming weeks I'll continue adding more multiplayer and single-player mini-games, improving the networking system, expanding Japanese learning content, and polishing the overall experience.

As always, thank you for your bug reports, suggestions, Steam reviews, and continued support throughout Early Access. :>

Time to take a nap!

See you next weekend!
