PLAYNESE: Master Japanese changes
From the Developer
This week's update introduces the first floor of the brand-new Kanji Tower, expands the Anki Idle card collection, adds new study songs, and brings additional quality-of-life improvements to the Library.
The biggest addition is the opening of Kanji Tower Floor 1, a new challenge area focused on testing and reinforcing kanji knowledge through quizzes, rewards, and battles. :>
Kanji Tower Now Open
Kanji Tower Floor 1 is now available to explore.
This new challenge area introduces a brand-new Drag & Drop quiz mechanic designed specifically for kanji study.
Each floor currently contains approximately 50 randomly selected kanji questions covering the same 50 kanji taught throughout the corresponding PLAYNESE school content.
Players earn and lose Japanese currency based on performance:
+3円 (えん) for each correct answer
-3円 (えん) for each incorrect answer
Floor 1 also includes:
New background music
New voice lines
A card battle challenge for the first Kanji Tower gym badge
The Kanji Tower system has been designed to grow over time. Additional floors, challenges, rewards, and study content are planned for future updates.
Please note:
Future additions to Kanji Tower will not require starting a new save file. New content will simply be added to existing games. Yay!
Steam Deck users:
If you own a Steam Deck, please let me know if you encounter any issues. I'd like to ensure the Kanji Tower experience works properly there as well.
Anki Flashcards Idle Expansion
Additional vocabulary has been added to these JLPT decks below.
Current additions:
JLPT N3: +50 cards added (200 total)
JLPT N2: +100 cards added (200 total)
JLPT N1: +100 cards added (200 total)
All decks will continue expanding in future updates as more study material is added throughout development.
Music Room Updates
Several new study songs have been added to the Music Room.
3 New study songs added to the Music Room:
赤い風船 = あかい ふうせん = Red Balloon(s)
自分のため = じぶん の ため = For Myself
希望の先 = きぼう の さき = Beyond Hope
More songs are already written and planned for future updates.
Stories Room / Library Updates
The Library now includes the same display toggle system previously added to the Music Room.
Players can now switch between:
Japanese Only
Japanese + English + Furigana
This allows learners to choose whether they prefer a more immersive reading experience or additional study support while reading stories.
Fixes
Art
Fixed visual issues with the large tree artwork and pixels.
Stories Room / Library
Fixed an issue where audio would continue playing after a line was marked as known.
Right-clicking now properly returns to the previous menu (Back) instead of opening a quiz or selecting a random answer.
Other Notes
Kanji Tower is intended to become a major long-term study feature within PLAYNESE and will continue receiving additional content and improvements over time. I also want to add more NPCs and stories, which will take some time.
As always, thank you for your feedback, bug reports, suggestions, reviews, and support.
Every honest Steam review helps PLAYNESE reach more learners and directly supports future development.
Thank you for being part of the journey, and I hope you enjoy exploring the first floor of Kanji Tower.
See you again in next week's update!
