From the Developer

This week’s update focuses mostly on a major expansion of the Japanese Anki Idle cards, and new tracks to the Music Room.

A large amount (+840) of new vocabulary has been added across multiple JLPT levels for the new Anki Flashcards Idle system. While some but not many words may overlap between levels, many are included intentionally to increase exposure and reinforce learning through repetition.

It's important to note that there is no single official JLPT vocabulary or kanji list. The current content is based on older exams, textbooks, and commonly accepted study resources. Access these cards by pressing "F", then the "Memorization" button at the bottom.

Current flashcard totals:

  • JLPT N5+140 cards added (180 total)
  • JLPT N4+470 cards added (510 total)
  • JLPT N3+110 cards added (150 total)
  • JLPT N2+60 cards added (100 total)
  • JLPT N1+60 cards added (100 total)

All JLPT decks are planned to continue growing and will eventually contain roughly 1,000–3,000 study cards each depending on level.

New Feature: Study Mode Display Toggle

Based on feedback from Izzy and a few other community members, a new display option has been added.

Several players mentioned that they naturally look at the English meanings and furigana before attempting to read or understand the Japanese. Others wanted to experience songs and stories without immediate hints.

Players can now toggle between:

  • Japanese Only

  • Japanese + English + Furigana

For now only available in the:

  • Music Room

In the next update the Stories Room will be added after testing.

This allows learners to choose their preferred study style and switch between immersive reading and guided learning whenever they wish.

Please note:

Some players may already be using Study Mode or Immersive Mode, but because the school is primarily designed as a learning environment, this setting must currently be toggled inside the relevant room.

Music Room Updates

Several newly written songs have been added to the Music Room.

New additions include:

  • ぐるぐる = Round and Round

  • 思いバーベル = Heavy Barbells

  • 自分の道 = My Own Path

  • 神のように空へ立つ = Stand Toward the Sky Like a God

The final song now also includes background crowd vocals for a larger and more energetic sound.

I'm particularly curious to hear player feedback on this track and its lyrics. Also, what genres you enjoy?

Many additional songs are already written and planned for future updates within this month. I simply couldn't add them all in time.

Art Improvements

  • Brighter school hallway walls

  • New room preview pictures above classroom doors to help new players quickly identify room functions

  • Updated outside school skybox

  • New space-themed skybox

Additional environmental improvements and time-of-day visual changes are planned for future updates.

Fixes

Music Room

  • Corrected furigana typo in 太陽と月

    • 太陽 = たいよう

(Thanks to whereitsatvending for reporting it.)

Anki Flashcards Idle

  • Fixed JLPT N3 flashcard typos (#39 and #40)

Other Notes

Work continues on the JLPT N1 Q&A content, which is why some card artwork may currently appear different between updates for the few cards vissible.

Many Library stories are already written and simply need final polishing and implementation.

A LARGE amount of future content has already been completed and is waiting to be released over coming weeks, including additional stories, songs, study systems, quizzes, and other learning features.

As always, thank you for your feedback, bug reports, suggestions, reviews, and support.

Every honest Steam review helps PLAYNESE reach more learners and directly supports future development. Thank you for being part of the journey. Working on PLAYNESE has been very rewarding, and I hope you'll enjoy the many updates still to come!

See you again in next week's update!
