Orestruck: Space Miner changes
Howdy Miners!
To celebrate the approaching summer, we've a refreshed demo for you! It contains not only new and upgraded technical solutions, but also uses a heavily modified gameplay, which, as we believe, will make the game world richer and the overall gaming experience more fun and immersive.
Hyper Time
This is the biggest change you'll notice. From now on, as an employee of Space Mine Corp., you'll have access to cybernetic body modifications. The first one of these will be Hyper Time. This inconspicuous chip will allow you to slow down time and give you those few invaluable seconds of advantage over opponents that require quick reflexes. It comes in handy in clashes with Space Zombies armed with blasters or machine guns, where you'll be able to beat them to a draw.
It's worth knowing that with each killed enemy, the Hyper Time level recharges slightly.
Challenges
Challenges are short secret levels where you have to defend yourself against the hordes of Space Zombies, using only specific weapons and in a limited time frame. By killing zombies there, you collect money that can be used later on to buy ammo or body modifications.
Searchable Crates and Bodies
This is another change that should not escape your notice. Every dead body you encounter and some crates can be searched by holding down the interaction button for a few seconds. The items you find are instantly monetized and converted into Zombcoins, a currency that you can use to buy ammunition and, later in the game, cybernetic body modifications.
While the contents of individual crates do not change, the chance of their appearance is purely random, so when completing a level multiple times, you can collect different numbers of items, depending on your luck.
Gung-Ho-o-matic Vending Machines
Don't be surprised if you find less ammunition placed on the levels than before. You can now use the Zombcoins you earned from selling found items to buy as much ammunition as you want. Keep in mind, however, that ammunition is not cheap, so shop wisely and keep an eye out for things that can be sold.
Please note, however, that ammunition for special weapons such as the revolver or sawed-off shotgun is not available in any of the vending machines.
Melee Combat
Some of you have been worried about what would happen if you ran out of ammo for the basic shooting weapon, the Nail Gun. Heeding your feedback, we added a melee weapon that should be a perfect fit for any miner—the futuristic pickaxe. It'll not only be your last resort, but also the centerpiece of a series of pickaxe challenges, where it's the only weapon you're allowed to use.
DirectX12, Lumen, and Nanite
From a technological point of view, an important step for us was the transition to DirectX12. This allowed us to fully utilize the strengths of Unreal Engine 5.5 such as Lumen technology (a fully dynamic global illumination and reflections system) and Nanite (a virtualized geometry system that allows rendering complex scenes without suffering performance loss).
DLSS 4, Multi Frame Generation, and Overall Performance Boost
We have also implemented the latest version of DLSS (4.0.2) for even better performance and smoother gaming experience. And if your video card allows it, you can enable Multi Frame Generation to significantly boost the number of FPS.
More is to come.
Stay tuned!
