Foreword

Hello everyone!

After half a week of community testing, we believe the refactored multiplayer PVE framework is now quite stable. Therefore, we have decided to officially release version 1.42 today.

In this update, players can dive into a brand-new multiplayer experience— Operation Mode, which currently features two playable levels. Of course, this mode also fully supports custom player-made levels!

However, since we already rolled out new parts in the Beta version late last month, this official update will not include any additional parts.

Level Additions

New Multiplayer Mode: Operation Mode

The new Operation Mode allows players to experience standalone, mission-driven levels where victory hinges on completing clear objectives. You can choose to follow the level creator's recommendations and use pre-configured ships, or bring your own vessels into the fray. The host has the authority to toggle the option for allowing custom ships.

Currently, this mode can only be accessed in multiplayer rooms set specifically to "Operation Mode".

Level 1: Sea of Dreadnoughts

Hypothetical mission. When WWI drags on into 1921 without a victor, Britain decides to proactively launch a landing operation against Germany, triggering the second decisive naval clash. Playing as the British forces, players will command older warships to challenge the cutting-edge vessels of the German Navy. Suppressing the enemy's older ships early on will provide a crucial advantage for subsequent combat phases.

Level 2: Fall of the Rising Sun

Hypothetical mission. When the Pacific War continues to a point where both sides are deploying new equipment, players will command US forces armed with experimental weapons against a numerically superior IJN fleet. As a joint naval-air operation level, you will not only face advanced battleships but also have to survive massive enemy air raids.

Levels for this mode are generated using the "Standalone Level Editor". Although Steam Workshop support is not enabled at this stage, you can share your custom levels directly within the lobby for other players to experience together.

Much like the Career Editor, this editor is still in its testing phase and requires a specific method to enable.

Please create a "CareerDev.txt" file at C:UsersYourUsernameAppDataLocalLowRZEntertainmentNavalArt, and then access it by selecting [Level Editor] from the small button in the top left corner of the main menu.

Adjustment: Swapped the Alsace and Mogami in "Hunt the Flagship: Alsace" and "Hunt the Flagship: Yamato" to better-optimized versions for improved performance.

Fixes

Fix: Significantly mitigated the long-standing memory leak issue.

Fix: Resolved an issue where level objectives displayed incorrect initial states for client players with slower loading times.

Fix: Addressed historical research and model inaccuracies for the Italian [OTOMAT] Anti-Ship Missile Launcher. The launcher and missile have now been standardized to the Mark 1 variant, utilizing its historical 60km range.

Fix: Fixed a bug where n1332 Italian Armstrong 450mm "100-ton" Gun (Twin Barbette), n1385 British 343mm/30 Mark I Naval Gun (Twin Open Mount), and n1410 Italian 431mm/27 Naval Gun (Twin Barbette) were incorrectly using modern artillery sound effects.

Fix: Corrected the face orientation of n186 Small Crane I.

Fix: Fixed the hitbox dimensions for n62, 63 British 356mm/45 Mark VII Naval Guns.

Visuals

New: Brand-new Ambient Occlusion (AO) effects.

Thanks to these updated lighting and shadow effects, ships now look significantly more realistic, richly detailed, and imposing in scale.

New: Added a semi-transparent effect when the camera clips through the hull.

Adjustment: Reduced the visual intensity of raindrops.

Adjustment: Modified the transparency from the sea surface down to the waterline, reducing overall water transparency.

Adjustment: Removed meaningless fog shading on the sea surface.

Adjustment: Improved sea surface shading and enhanced the horizon line rendering in Fast Mode.

Adjustment: Optimized water surface reflection effects.

Fix: Fixed sea surface specular highlights to resolve visual anomalies at certain camera angles.

Part Stat Adjustments

This update introduces a large-scale accuracy buff for heavy naval guns, alongside several balance adjustments based on historical data.

n1400US 356mm/50 Mark B Naval GunMassive accuracy buff: Horizontal dispersion factor: 4.2→3.9, Vertical dispersion factor: 5.6→4.6

Notes:

  1. The vertical dispersion factor is scaled up by roughly 2x in actual gameplay, meaning horizontal dispersion will never exceed vertical dispersion.

  2. Historically, the Italian Navy lacked azimuth correction in their fire control, resulting in sub-par horizontal dispersion. Reflecting this characteristic, Italian heavy naval guns will have worse-than-average horizontal dispersion in-game.

  3. Due to the notoriously abysmal performance of the "unrivaled" main gun loading mechanisms on historical US Standard-type battleships, the reload time for all Standard-type battleship turrets has been further extended to 39s/salvo. Since conflicting historical data exists regarding the 406mm/50 Mark 2, we are temporarily adopting the more well-supported view that it shared a similar structure to Standard-type battleships, thus increasing its reload to 39s. The highly complex Tillman sextuple turret has been individually adjusted to 49s, but its accuracy has received a massive buff to ensure it doesn't fall too far behind standard artillery. The Career Mode tech tree stats and descriptions have been updated accordingly.

  4. Given the overwhelmingly superior armor-piercing capabilities of US 16-inch AP shells (especially post-Mk8 Mod 6), we have significantly buffed the AP damage of US 16-inch naval guns. The Mark 7 naval gun simulates the use of Mark 8 Mod 6 AP shells, while the Mark 6 naval gun simulates the use of Mark 8 Mod 0-5 AP shells.

Preview

In our upcoming version 1.5, we will begin working on the highly anticipated basic Anti-Submarine mechanics, primarily focusing on depth charge racks and projectors.

Of course, Steam Workshop support for community levels will arrive even sooner. It will be implemented via a hotfix prior to the 1.5 update.
