addedIt's been a fantastic first month for Mysteries of Old Tokyo and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. As we enter the summer, things will start to slow down a little, but I do want to add at least some post-release content as I plan out the possibilities for the future.
changedSo this release contains an old-school game manual , the kind that used to come on glossy paper inside a cardboard box. For the convenience of the modern age, you can view the manual in-game, or export* the PDF to view on another screen or even another device.
removedNote: Due to the limitations of the SteamOS platform, the "Open PDF" button is disabled on Steam Deck. However, you can still access the PDF file in Desktop mode.
addedImprovementsAdded a 48-page manual packed with useful information, hints, tips, and forbidden RIA lore . You can access the manual at any time with the “View Game Manual” on the right side (except in 4:3 mode). Click a page to open it in fullscreen for easier reading on small screens. You can also open it externally as a PDF. The PDF lives in the game folder, so you can export it or print it if you like. (Note: The in-game "Open as PDF" button is hidden when playing on Steam Deck, because the default browser does not support PDFs.)
addedImprovementsAdded achievement for opening the manual (full game only).
fixedBug fixesIcons on tabs (e.g. in PDA) now export correctly ( see Godot issue #116358 )

It's been a fantastic first month for Mysteries of Old Tokyo and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. As we enter the summer, things will start to slow down a little, but I do want to add at least some post-release content as I plan out the possibilities for the future.

I was inspired by the manuals that used to come with games like Strike Commander and Starship Titanic: a little bit instruction book, a little bit in-universe fluff and lore.

Mysteries of Old Tokyo: RIA Employee Handbook includes:

  • The RIA employee handbook, including an introduction by Guy Picksall, a letter from the company president, a short history, the latest news, and much more juicy lore!

  • Basic instructions for the game

  • Hints and tips and an FAQ section

Check it out in-game now, and enjoy your week!

  • NoteDue to the limitations of the SteamOS platform, the "Open PDF" button is disabled on Steam Deck. However, you can still access the PDF file in Desktop mode.

Changes

Improvements

  • Added a 48-page manual packed with useful information, hints, tips, and forbidden RIA lore.

    • You can access the manual at any time with the “View Game Manual” on the right side (except in 4:3 mode).

    • Click a page to open it in fullscreen for easier reading on small screens.

    • You can also open it externally as a PDF. The PDF lives in the game folder, so you can export it or print it if you like. (Note: The in-game "Open as PDF" button is hidden when playing on Steam Deck, because the default browser does not support PDFs.)

  • Added achievement for opening the manual (full game only).

  • PDA scroll bars are now slightly thicker and up/down scroll buttons are bigger.

Bug fixes

  • Icons on tabs (e.g. in PDA) now export correctly (see Godot issue #116358)

  • Fixed PDA theme margins issue so buttons look better.

Other notes

  • Upgraded the game to Godot 4.7.
