Mysteries of Old Tokyo changes
Next Fest starts on Monday! This is incredibly exciting and scary at the same time. I've been spending a bit of time to make sure the demo is in tip-top condition before release, so please enjoy a overhauled tutorial and a whole new treasure, as well as improved quality-of-life features.
Features
Improved and streamlined tutorial with all-new intro. Learn the story of how you got to Tokyo! (Spoiler: by train)
Treasures are now unlocked by week (instead of randomly), to fit with the theme of each week. Each week, one of the postcards will trigger a “treasure found” notification.
Added 1 new treasure for the demo.
Improvements
Efforts at reducing information overload and making gameplay smoother:
Your PDA now only shows what you need to do next.
Much improved train routing algorithm. No more having to change 3-4 times to hop a short distance! The algorithm will try to reduce the number of changes, so it’s a lot easier to get around.
Dialog boxes now have a “shadow” hiding the background.
The Data Entry/Spirit Report buttons will be disabled when you complete them and no longer need to access them.
Use a grey color for disabled Word Holes instead of red.
Added walking and train sounds when moving around.
You now get a bonus payment when completing the spirit report each week. Also, once you finish the demo, you’ll still get paid when repeating the week.
Improved handling around evidence found at stations.
Slightly larger image viewer in the encyclopedia.
Station locations menu has slightly different layout.
PDA now shows chapter title.
PDA makes it clearer that you have to visit postcard to unlock spirit, not just station.
Removed unnecessary map tutorial in chapter 2.
Spirit dialog now waits for evidence dialog to close before triggering.
Bug fixes
Fixed a route planning bug where finding a route on a loop line didn’t take the loop into account.
Find-A-Route map no longer spoils that week’s postcards.
Avoid destroying player’s eardrums by playing pager alert on mixer channel instead of master channel.
“New postcard” alert no longer displays at station after demo complete.
Unlock scene is skipped after demo complete.
Fixed “Discovered x/x words” message on word list, and missing “No words” message.
