Welcome to the first installment of the Mysteries of Old Tokyo devlog.

Playtest (September) and demo (TBD)!

I had hoped August would be a productive month, and it was: Mysteries of Old Tokyo now has a complete gameplay loop, improved graphics, sound effects, all-new travel options, and a tutorial.

Because of that, I'm keen (and a little scared) to start getting your feedback! That's why I'm planning a playtest sometime in September. As always, there are probably hundreds of things that I don't see, or have got used to, or simply never thought of.

The playtest will be held through Steam together with a Discord to collect feedback. If you're interested, just follow for updates by clicking the Follow button on the store page, or keep an eye out on the socials:

As well as the playtest, which will be open to everyone who wants to try, I'm hoping soon to release some kind of demo? Ideally that will coincide with...

Finnish Games Week 2025

I'm also excited to announce Mysteries of Old Tokyo will be participating in the first-ever Finnish Games Week Steam Event from October 6-10! Kiitos paljon, och samma på svenska.

As a happy resident of Finland for some years now, I'm really proud to be included in this event. As a country of just 5 million, Finland really punches above its weight in the game industry.

In fact, one of the first things I ever learned about Finland was that Max Payne was from Finland and this weird guy called Sam Lake made it. Perhaps you've played one of these Finnish games:

  • Angry Birds

  • Cities: Skylines

  • Clash of Clans

  • Alan Wake

  • Brawl Stars

  • Control

or even:

  • Snake (Nokia 3310 ed.)

and soon:

  • Mysteries of Old Tokyo!

If you haven't already, please remember to wishlist the game by clicking the blue star over there (it costs nothing!) and if you're interested in trying the playtest and demo, you can follow the game as well to get updates by clicking the Follow button on the store page.

Thanks, and hope to have something for you soon!
