addedIntroduce a new Options > Gameplay item for your currently selected controller. You can scroll through all your attached controllers by just pressing this button like any other option, even with your keyboard or mouse. Now as I only have an Xbox One controller, I do not know how well this will work, especially with Steam Input, so this is a big thing I need feedback on.
addedMake it so that the Options > Gameplay menu polls for new controllers when you press the "current controller" button. This will allow you to make the game detect a controller if you plug it in after the game starts.
addedI haven't been able to get automatic controller detection to work well because the polling does cause a framerate hitch due to Fusion's lack of process threading (basically searching for new controllers interrupts the game itself). So instead of this being a function that will mess with everyone's framerate (ew), you'll just have to go to the Options menu and press the button when you plug a new controller in. Hey it's better than having to restart the game!
changedI'm aiming to get this update out in the first week of May, so in the meantime please switch over to the beta branch (right click the game in your library, select Properties > Game Versions & Betas, and select "beta") and give these updates a test. Also let me know if you run into any other issues!

Hi all. Due to some feedback on social media, controller detection is getting a major overhaul in the next update. The goal for this overhaul is for you to be able to use ANY controller you have plugged in, not just "Controller 1" as it's been for years. In order to achieve this, I've had to do a few things:

  1. Introduce a new Options > Gameplay item for your currently selected controller. You can scroll through all your attached controllers by just pressing this button like any other option, even with your keyboard or mouse. Now as I only have an Xbox One controller, I do not know how well this will work, especially with Steam Input, so this is a big thing I need feedback on.

  2. Make it so that the Options > Gameplay menu polls for new controllers when you press the "current controller" button. This will allow you to make the game detect a controller if you plug it in after the game starts.

  3. Update all control code across all scenes to look for the current controller Global Value, rather than just reference Controller 1.

  4. Save the controller value to your settings file, load this value up at the start of the game, and set this value to 1 if it equals 0.

I haven't been able to get automatic controller detection to work well because the polling does cause a framerate hitch due to Fusion's lack of process threading (basically searching for new controllers interrupts the game itself). So instead of this being a function that will mess with everyone's framerate (ew), you'll just have to go to the Options menu and press the button when you plug a new controller in. Hey it's better than having to restart the game!

There are also some huge Mondrian Maker bug fixes in this update. You should now find that painted colors save to stamped blocks appropriately, and that different levels can once again be opened after saving a level.

I'm aiming to get this update out in the first week of May, so in the meantime please switch over to the beta branch (right click the game in your library, select Properties > Game Versions & Betas, and select "beta") and give these updates a test. Also let me know if you run into any other issues!
