Hey Survivors

We hope you’re all holding up well out there. We’ve got some big news to share with you, and we couldn’t be more excited!

A New Beginning

As you may know, Lifeless had a rough start. We always believed in the game’s potential, but various issues kept it from being the post-apocalyptic adventure we dreamed it could be. Despite those setbacks, we never gave up on that vision.

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve (myself and H) fully reacquired the rights to Lifeless and have been hard at work for the past few years (since 2021 to be exact) to bring you the game we always promised.

Myself and H are the only developers on the game since we managed to re-acquire the game in 2021, and we are doing this in our free time outside of our full-time dayjobs. This is also why it has taken some time to get to this point.

We’ve upgraded “Lifeless” to the latest Unreal Engine 5, fixed all the old issues, and added a ton of new features to make the game better than ever.

This has truly been a labor of love for us, we’ve been developing this game for over 10 years without making any profit because it’s a passion project. And at this point, it’s about finishing what we set out to do in the first place.

So what is new?

A lot, but first of all, Lifeless now runs on Unreal Engine 5.4.4 and the game is now a single player, co-op experience. This may be controversial to some (who love PVP), but I will outline below why we came to this decision.

There are two main reasons for this change, availability and cheating. We want you to feel safe that once you play Lifeless, it can never be taken away from you. This means that we also dont want the game to have to rely on ANY infrastructure that you are not in control of.

This way even if we get hit by a bus and development stops, you can always play Lifeless. Secondly, even if we enabled large PVP worlds, it would be infested and ruined by cheaters. If massive corporations cant solve this problem, it would be naive to think that we could.

Of course, you can still invite friends to play with you, since the multiplayer option is still there. Additionally, these new features have been added to the game:

  • Completely New World Map

  • 2 New enemy types (total of 4 now!)

  • Wild animals to hunt / skin

  • Crafting system

  • Growing system

  • Player Housing and building

  • Missions with a story

  • Gathering (trees, bushes, etc)

  • Weapon Upgrades for ALL firearms, including active upgrades

  • Skills

  • Achievements

  • Roaming NPCs

  • 1000+ bug fixes and optimisations

  • New Melee combat code

  • Many new UI improvements

  • Over 250 items in the game

  • Voiced dialogue system for NPCs

  • Cutscenes

  • And much, much more

So when can I play?

If you already own the game, we have already updated it and you can download it and play right now!

What is next?

First and foremost we want to make sure the game is stable and has good performance. Once that is confirmed and we have ironed out any bugs, we want to engage our community and with your help we will decide where our next efforts should lie. New missions? New zombies? New areas? Spaceships? Mod support? - you decide.

I hope you
