Part of the reason is to force myself to make progress on the game against all odds*

Bitsummit Kyoto!

We've been invited to participate as part of the German studios delegation for Japan's premier indie games dev event. As the game draws on some Japanese influences in terms of Kaiju monsters (the humans) as well as us planning to have a level set in Japan, we couldn't miss out on this opportunity (plus the food is ace) so we're going to Japan, baby.

The Game

For that we want to update the game build and this week we specked out all the changes we want to do in the next two months before this event, including:

  1. A new intro level that teaches some of the mechanics and kick-starts the narrative. Its going to be gross

  2. Rework of the hit-avoidance/destruction mechanic & mini-game. Its much too repetitive and a pain to use

  3. Rework of the Cat Section. Although its not a real cat, its gathering too much negative reactions so going to tone this down a bit.

  4. Some AI improvements

  5. Multiple quality of life improvements and destructibility of more objects

  6. Adding a credit roll

  7. A Japan-specific build with new VO (by yours truly)

  8. and a few more bits and bobs

As well as one more surprise to try and convince some Japanese publishers to invest in the game.

That's it for this week. Next week I hope to discuss another upcoming event and maybe post about the game Swag we have.

Best,

Seb x

*odds are a) having a full time job b) having a family and a social life and c) having finite cash reserves to do this with.
