HOLLOW MIRE changes
Development on Hollow Mire continues steadily behind the scenes, and today we wanted to share more glimpses into the world we’re building.
🧍 Updated Portrait Artwork
We’ve continued updating many of the game’s character portraits.
Each portrait takes several days to complete and remains one of the most labour-intensive parts of development. Moving the characters into a higher level of detail presents its own challenges, not just technically, but emotionally as well.
We want every portrait to fully represent the character behind it. Their history, exhaustion, fears, and personality all need to come through in a single image. Each face should feel like it carries a story of its own.
As development continues, we’re refining these portraits carefully to ensure they feel grounded within the world of Hollow Mire while still maintaining the hand-drawn atmosphere that defines the game. John Rowe Steam post image Elizabeth Roland Steam post image
🚶 The Road to Breken House
In this updated scene, Walter watches from above as John makes his way toward Breken House.
It’s a quiet moment, but one layered with tension, the feeling of being observed long before you understand why. As John moves deeper into the world surrounding Breken House, the line between coincidence and intentions begin to blur together. Steam post image
đź–¤ Noir Comic Panel Cutscenes
We’re also continuing work on several narrative cutscenes presented through dark, noir-inspired comic panels.
These sequences allow us to lean further into the game’s psychological tone while presenting memories, conversations, and fragmented moments in a more stylised way. Heavy shadows, harsh lighting, and hand-drawn compositions all play a role in shaping the mood we want these scenes to carry. Steam post image
🎼 Updated Soundtrack Direction
The soundtrack and sound design continue to evolve alongside the visuals.
We’re now leaning further into a classic 1950’s noir horror score, subdued jazz, restrained orchestration, unsettling ambience, and atmospheric sound design rooted firmly in the era the game inhabits.
Inspired by Hitchcock-era psychological horror, the focus is on building tension through mood, silence, pacing, and suggestion rather than spectacle alone. Fans of the era may instantly recognise some of the instrumentation choices and noir-inspired tones woven throughout an updated soundtrack.
🛠️ Updated Demo Coming Soon
We’re also preparing another updated version of the Hollow Mire demo.
This new build includes additional polish, visual refinements, updated scenes, a new UI, updated soundtrack, more things to discover and ways to interact with Breken House, along with continued pacing improvements as we keep shaping the experience into something stronger and more cohesive.
We’re looking forward to sharing it with you soon.
🕰️ Development Continues
It’s taking time to make Hollow Mire the best it can be.
Every scene, sound, and visual update is being carefully refined as development continues moving forward. We genuinely appreciate everyone who has taken the time to follow the project, explore the demo, and support the game along the way.
Thank you for watching the world of Hollow Mire come together.
More soon.
