🎨 Environments & Characters in Hollow Mire

Today we wanted to share a few pieces of artwork from Hollow Mire that capture a stage of development we rarely show.

🚪 The Gate to Breken House

Far from the city, the iron gates stand before Breken House.

This threshold marks one of the story’s emotional turning points, a place where certainty gives way to doubt, and memory begins to fracture. The world grows quieter here. Heavier.

This scene is caught between concept and completion. Stone and iron are sketched into place, while fog, light, and decay begin to take hold in paint. It’s a moment suspended between intention and inevitability. Steam post image

🏢 The Editor’s Office

A quiet room at the edge of the story.

This is where John first begins to sense that his work is pulling him somewhere darker, a small office filled with paper, stale light, and organised chaos.

In this sketch > full colour, much of the scene exists in idea, as pencil lines. Steam post image

🚗 Gwen’s Car — From Sketch to Paint

We’re also sharing a smaller but important detail: Detective Gwen Porter’s car.

Vehicles are strange things to draw. They’re rigid, mechanical, and precise, the opposite of the soft, unstable worlds our characters move through. That contrast is exactly why we like starting them in loose pencil first.

Seeing Gwen’s car in both its raw sketch form and its painted version reveals how much of Hollow Mire’s mood is built in layers: structure first, emotion second. Even something practical becomes part of the story once light and wear take hold. Steam post image

🤕 John, Mid-Moment

Finally, a look at John himself.

This piece captures him during one of his quieter episodes, a headache that’s more than physical. Confusion, memory, grief, and exhaustion all press in at once.

Like the environments, he begins as conceptual lines before colour and shadow take hold. Steam post image

We hope you enjoy this small look into the world we're creating and we're looking forward to sharing more development news with you soon!
