Hey Sproutling fans!
It’s been a while! Time for a new dev blog to keep you guys updated on Green Again’s development, with new footage from behind the scenes on what Máté has been working on.
As mentioned previously, Green Again will have more complex strategy elements involving enemy waves and a tower defence system. In the last dev blog, we showcased part of the new turrets (though with only placeholders, as the art is still WIP). This time, it’s time to see the other side of the conflict: the robots .
Enemies will start attacking your settlement in waves. More new enemies will appear with specialized roles to threaten either your buildings or your production. Two examples are the Crawlers, which are kamikaze bombers that aims to blow up your buildings, and Worms, tiny robots that eat up your hard-earned crops in the fields. Plan your settlement carefully to mitigate these new threats against your reclamation projects!
To further spice up the plants vs robots conflict, enemy waves won’t just be fixed numbers of robots that you can easily memorise and counter. Máté is currently working on a dynamic wave spawn mechanic, where the Sproutlings are no longer the only ones improvising and adapting, but the robots as well. Bots will be spawning in waves according to their robotic programming in response to the Sproutlings, making each battle a unique challenge for you and your plant people to constantly adapt to and overcome.
With the robots assembling new troops and adopting combined-arms tactics, the Sproutlings will soon need to plan their expansions carefully. Similar to the turrets, the enemies currently are still mostly placeholders, and the art assets are in the works. Please look forward to more updates, and we can't wait to show you more new gameplay in the near future. Meanwhile, follow us on our socials to get notified for the latest news of Green Again!
