Hey Sproutling fans!
Hope you are having a great start to 2026! It’s been a while since we showed you what’s going on behind the scenes, so let’s start our year with a dev blog.
Green Again is a strategy game at heart, with conflict revolving around the Sproutling’s reclamation of a barren wasteland and rogue drones trying to stop them. We felt that this conflict is currently less developed in the demo, so Máté has been reworking many related elements and the gameplay will eventually see significant changes. Drones will get more dangerous, able to harass and attack your colony in waves. The good news is, a more complex turret defence system is also in the works, which will give you better defences to hold back the renewed threats.
One of the new additions will be the EMP tower. Excuse us for the checkerboard placeholders – Máté is working with the artist on the assets and hopefully we’ll be able to reveal them to you soon. Still, the functionality is all there with the tower able to lob arcing EMP shots at incoming targets (like the Jellyfish) to disable them.
Here’s another shot of the “EMP tower” launching its projectiles, this time at a much faster pace in the debug mode. Sometimes you got to push a system to the limits and make sure it doesn’t break!
The EMP turret will work differently than the light beams of the current light tower, and both of these defence towers will have their distinct uses in defending your colony.
You might also notice that, in the short gif above, turrets enter a cooldown phase after firing, and no longer 360-no-scope everything in quick succession. This change means the Sproutlings will soon need to plan their defences with more caution – they'll need to make use of every tool in their arsenal!
With more new features and content added over the past year, Green Again’s Demo is getting closer and closer to completion. Development is shifting towards the full game, and we are eager to show you what’s coming in 2026. We genuinely appreciate each and every one of you for supporting us throughout this indie game journey, whether you’ve been there since our demo launched or you’ve just joined recently. This year will be a big one for the Sproutlings, and we’ll soon be back with more news on Green Again. Stay tuned on our socials!
