Good Heavens! changes
It has been a long silence but we have been working nonstop, and we have lots of good news to share.
First of all, we increased the size of the team and almost ready to release the game after 4.5 years of development but we need more testing and spreading the word. Hurray for the future of Good Heavens! We are also negotiating with some of the best publishers in the genre, but we may also end up self-publishing the game. The coming months will tell.
We’ll need you to join our Discord so we can coordinate beta tests.
Okay, enough business let’s talk about new features and our roadmap.
Multiplayer Steam post image
The multiplayer demo has been ready since July almost five months now. We’ve been doing internal tests and adding additional functionality. The demo content is now much larger than before and far more fun with friends.
Co-op multiplayer is currently working without any issues, as far as we’ve tested. That said, we need more testing to see if you can spot any problems and to make sure the game is as fun as we intend it to be.
We want the game to be fully playable both solo and with friends. The game balance is not yet fully finalized, but from what we can see, playing solo will be more challenging, while playing with more people will lower the difficulty. We’ve primarily tried to balance the experience for 2–3 players.
We’ve added new buildings and abilities to make the multiplayer experience even more enjoyable. You can now throw different parties at your base to buff the team for the next day, or use stratagems (combat auras) to enhance players around the stratagem holder.
We’ve also implemented several quality-of-life features for the map and minimap, as well as dungeon and boss lair entrances. Players will now go through a “ready check” UI, allowing everyone to enter instances at the same time.
Space Exploration
The world of Good Heavens! is huge, with many different islands, biomes, and sub-biomes. If you’ve played our previous demos, the island you explored was only a small part of the overall map.
To travel between islands, you’ll need to build space vessels. Along the way, you may encounter anomalies, events, shops, enemies, and even space bosses.
Each island has a harbor where you can purchase ships of different sizes and hire crew members. Every ship has unique features, and both you and your crew play an active role in space events. These events are narrative, choice-based encounters, with some options appearing depending on your crew composition (players or hired crew).
Anomalies are small islands with special features — such as shops where you can restock supplies and fuel, or dungeons to explore. Some parts of space are initially unreachable and will unlock as you progress through the main story. Once unlocked, you’ll be able to discover new islands with entirely new biomes.
Fishing
Fishing is now unlocked via the exploration tech tree. This is the first minigame in a planned series for Good Heavens! It’s inspired by other fishing games in the genre, with our own unique twist.
There are different fishing rods, baits, and fishing zones throughout the game. Each fish has unique behavior, and some provide a real challenge to catch. Fish can be used in food recipes or sold and if you’re lucky, you might even uncover hidden treasures while fishing.
The Roadmap
Upcoming months of Good Heavens! will be very content heavy. Major features of the game are developed but some of them need polish. We will be enriching combat, enemy variety and add new technologies. The content is almost ready until the end of 4 biome but we will be adding two new biomes until the Early Access release of the game. We need more testers! Come join our discord: Discord
