addedHello Faith in Despair players! In the past few weeks, I've been hard at work on adding new content and making the game a bit more accessible. Here is a preview of what's to come in the upcoming update.
addedNew UI for starting a runI made it more apparent what your current rollout is, and unified both the journal and custom run interfaces. You'll also notice a new feature here, which is the Deity selection.
addedDeitiesThe new deities have 21 unique abilities that you can utilize in your deck. You will get two random deities from the start, or you can "unlock" a deity, so you can choose to have it in the beginning of a run. These abilities are locked modifier lacrima, so they can't be changed. And they will not appear in the general lacrima pool.
changedNew in-game UIThe previous UI was inconsistent in terms of font size and icon placing, and it was a bit too big in general. The atonement icons were a bit all over the place, especially when you had more than five. The Faith and Despair bars had the same color, so it was hard to differentiate. The cogwheel / pause icon was in the upper left, but usually games place it in the upper right corner. The chapter view was taking up too much space. As you can see, the in-game UI definitely needed some work. Shout out to Auri and Lyfeu for giving me ideas here.
changedUndoYou will now be able to press "Undo" after playing cards and after ending a turn. It will cost Gold to do so, but it starts low at 5 Gold and doubles in price every time you use it. I added this to make misplays less frustrating, and because there are overwhelming situations where you can easily miss a trigger on an enemy. Often times there is just one mistake that prevents you from winning a run, so I hope this makes the game a bit more approachable.
addedLane stackingYou will be able to stack your creatures on your lanes. In the old version, playing a creature on top of an already existing creature removed the existing one from the board and it got moved to your discard pile. In the new version, the existing creature will simply be flipped face down and the new one will be on top.

New UI for starting a run

I made it more apparent what your current rollout is, and unified both the journal and custom run interfaces. You'll also notice a new feature here, which is the Deity selection.

Deities

The new deities have 21 unique abilities that you can utilize in your deck. You will get two random deities from the start, or you can "unlock" a deity, so you can choose to have it in the beginning of a run. These abilities are locked modifier lacrima, so they can't be changed. And they will not appear in the general lacrima pool.

New in-game UI

The previous UI was inconsistent in terms of font size and icon placing, and it was a bit too big in general.

Undo

You will now be able to press "Undo" after playing cards and after ending a turn.

Lane stacking

You will be able to stack your creatures on your lanes. In the old version, playing a creature on top of an already existing creature removed the existing one from the board and it got moved to your discard pile. In the new version, the existing creature will simply be flipped face down and the new one will be on top.

This has several advantages:

  1. You don't "lose" Despair, because the creature is still on the board and doesn't need to be replayed.

  2. You can now summon demons/automatons/etc. even when there is no empty lane.

  3. You can prepare a stack to avoid situations where your creature is killed mid-turn and you'd be attacked directly to receive Faith damage.

  4. You can move a creature away from the stack onto an empty lane, and the next creature is revealed automatically.

Status Effect Numbers

In the old version it was always a bit cumbersome to see the current amount of stacks of status effects, i.e. Poison, Stoneskin, etc. Now, the status effects have numbers to provide information at a quick glance.

Scrollable Battle Log

The battle log has been remade from the ground up to allow simple scrolling with the mouse or with touchscreens. It still works with controller too.

Additional Content

There will be new demons, curses, blessings, a new boss and a handful of new lacrima.

Quality of Life

There will also be a bunch of quality of life enhancements.

  • Changed Boss immunityInstead of being 100% immune and resistant to damage, now they are immune to Clear Buffs, Fracture and all debuffs. Incoming damage is reduced by 75%.
  • Sell cards immediately after buying them in a shop

  • Middle mouse click doesn't end turn anymore, but can be used to quick-play creatures

  • Death offers repairing deck as a fourth option instead of replacing the third option

  • Playing endless mode no longer counts as a loss and doesn't interrupt win streak

  • And so on!

The full list of changes will be posted on release.

Beta is Available Now!

▶ Right-click on the game in your library, click Properties > Game Versions & Betas, set the branch to "beta" and restart Steam. You should now be able to play the new version (1.0.5). Feedback is important, so post all your beta feedback/suggestions/ideas in the discussions board or on the Discord's #beta channel.

⚠ Attention: Going back to the old version after playing the beta is not recommended, as you will lose new statistics and might encounter other unforeseen issues. Please only check out the beta if you're planning on staying with it until it is officially released.

Thank You

As always, thank you for playing Faith in Despair. The new update should be released within the next two weeks. Hope you'll enjoy it!
