What changed

0 fixes6 additions4 changes0 removals
  • Gameplay
  • Maps
  • UI and audio
addedBarricadesThe random level generation system was expanded to include barricades. These block the player’s path and force them to find an alternate route toward the exit, adding more variety and tension to each run.
addedBuoyant ItemsAfter adding camps to the flooded biome, a problem surfaced: wood is required to establish a camp — but no wood naturally spawns there.
addedBuoyant ItemsThe solution? Floating wood planks that the player can pick up and interact with. This not only solves the progression issue but also adds a surprising amount of life (and maybe too much fun) to the biome as you push the planks around.
addedComputer and Floppy DisksThe old save system of finding quill and ink and saving your progress at the camp in the journal was replaced with a computer and floppy disk. The computer was added to the camp which requires a battery for power and a floppy disk in order to save. This feature is fully functional (including power consumption) and I plan to expand it later on.
changedLoad / Save UIWith the save system overhaul, the UI needed to match. The load/save menu has been redesigned to fit the new computer and floppy disk aesthetic, keeping everything visually cohesive.
addedEmergency RationSay hello to a new consumable: the Emergency Ration. It can be found in the flooded biome and helps balance the reduced mushroom spawns there. This item is intentionally limited and helps players survive the early game until they’re better prepared.

Hi everyone! My name is Sean — the solo developer behind Expedition RAVN-3. This is the first of many monthly updates as I work toward finalizing the demo and, eventually, the full release. With that intro out of the way, let’s dive into what happened in November.

Barricades

The random level generation system was expanded to include barricades. These block the player’s path and force them to find an alternate route toward the exit, adding more variety and tension to each run.

Buoyant Items

After adding camps to the flooded biome, a problem surfaced: wood is required to establish a camp — but no wood naturally spawns there.

The solution? Floating wood planks that the player can pick up and interact with. This not only solves the progression issue but also adds a surprising amount of life (and maybe too much fun) to the biome as you push the planks around.

Computer and Floppy Disks

The old save system of finding quill and ink and saving your progress at the camp in the journal was replaced with a computer and floppy disk. The computer was added to the camp which requires a battery for power and a floppy disk in order to save. This feature is fully functional (including power consumption) and I plan to expand it later on.

Load / Save UI

With the save system overhaul, the UI needed to match. The load/save menu has been redesigned to fit the new computer and floppy disk aesthetic, keeping everything visually cohesive.

Emergency Ration

Say hello to a new consumable: the Emergency Ration. It can be found in the flooded biome and helps balance the reduced mushroom spawns there. This item is intentionally limited and helps players survive the early game until they’re better prepared.

Additional

  • Added 2 new passages and 7 new rooms.

  • Replaced or updated numerous sound effects.

  • Updated the map item visuals and notification style.

  • Updated the resting icon in the UI.

  • Lots of bug fixes and small clean-ups.

Thank you to everyone following this journey. If you’d like to support the project, you can follow along on itch.io, Steam and X.
