Expedition RAVN-3 changes
Hi everyone! This past month has been focused on improving progression, expanding the lava and methane biomes and adding additional clarity to help new players learn the game more naturally. Let’s dive into what changed.
Hints
A hint system has been added to the death screen. Based on a player’s progression and cause of death, up to 5 hints may be shown.
Additionally, logic has been added to prevent the same hint from appearing more than 3 times during a given session. For the demo, there are currently 23 unique hints available.
As with other systems, there is a gameplay option to disable hints entirely.
Lava Biome
The lava biome was previously the only biome without a connected path from the starting room to the end room. To address this, pipes have been added. There are currently 14 variations with more planned for the future.
Additionally, barricades have been added to the lava biome.
Methane Biome
A total of 18 rooms, 1 passage and 5 tracks have been added to the methane biome.
This biome also received:
Custom stalactite models.
Barricades.
Wood is now spawned along tracks that can be harvested.
Progression
New objectives have been added to better guide new players, with a stronger focus on establishing a camp and learning how to save progress.
Previously, the learning curve could feel frustrating. While the game is intended to be punishing, the goal is to punish mistakes - not a lack of understanding of the game’s mechanics.
To facilitate this, a battery and blank floppy disk have also been added to camp storage so players can learn the save system earlier.
Additional
A few bug fixes.
Added 10 more objectives.
Updated descriptions for certain items, skills and statuses for clarity.
Introduced maximum ladders per level to prevent multiple rooms with ladders appearing too frequently.
Added additional wooden shelves models.
