Changes to Extinction Events
I have decided to make some changes to how Extinction Events function after gathering a lot of feedback from all of you. We are now at a point where I believe that the balance of the first four planets is in a good state, and I do not anticipate that they need any major balance changes in the near future.
The following changes will already be in effect for the Extinction Event on the 1st of June.
Public Galaxies
Extinction Events now only delete all creatures on depth 12 and onward on the first four planets.
Extinction Events will still reset all creatures on NICOAS. (monthly rotating planet)
Private Galaxies
Extinction Events no longer delete any creatures in private galaxies on the first four planets.
Extinction Events will still reset all creatures on NICOAS. (monthly rotating planet)
Severe Extinction Events
Some Extinction Events will be announced as Severe Extinction Events. These will function like Extinction Events before this update and will reset all depths on all planets in all galaxies.
I will try to have these happen as rarely as possible, but I need them as an option in case I implement balance changes or mechanics that would give older creatures an unfair advantage. (for example, if an action becomes more expensive)
At some point, private galaxies will get the option to opt out of these events if players still want to keep their older creatures.
With these changes, players can still race to be the first to reach a new depth in the days following an Extinction Event, but the variety of enemies you face should make runs to depth 12 and onward more exciting.
I also hope that having your friends’ creatures around for a longer time will give private galaxies more staying power.
