DevLog #1! UI works are about 75% complete

Hey everyone! It's Tranquil Beast and my very first official DevLog on Steam : ) Yeah, if you didn't know, I post weekly on Reddit and Discord, but I've decided Steam page of the game needs some content for history, so,

Repeated intro

Hey everyone!

What changed

0 fixes2 additions6 changes0 removals
  • UI and audio
  • Gameplay
changedLast 3 or so months are fully dedicated to UI rework. Very few people had played a bit of playtest version I uploaded months ago and it has 0 UI. Like, really none. It's all was a mess of basic Unity assets and absolutely no layout. Reworking it all to a proper playable state is one of big milestones I have before launching mass playtests and demo. And that is what I was doing last months!
changedI'm making all UI gamepad friendly, so it's twice the work to be done. But I've managed, I hope : )
changedIt's nothing special, but intro logo and some animations are all frame by frame hand-drawn. The art here is probably temporary, but we will see how it'll go.
changedSettings menu, on the other hand, was a lot of work. Especially key bindings change.
changedNext stop is HUD !

It's Tranquil Beast and my very first official DevLog on Steam : ) Yeah, if you didn't know, I post weekly on Reddit and Discord, but I've decided Steam page of the game needs some content for history, so, here it is - first monthly devlog for Death Afterparty. Though, I'll mention more than a month of work just because, well, it's the first one.

First of all - Main Menu.Steam post image

It's nothing special, but intro logo and some animations are all frame by frame hand-drawn. The art here is probably temporary, but we will see how it'll go.

Settings menu, on the other hand, was a lot of work. Especially key bindings change.

Next stop is HUD!

On first look it's very simple, but there're lots of contextual tips and animations. Can't record it all in one small gif and, well, it's all about usability anyway : )

And let's look at some in-game menu tabs too.

Inventory

I'm actually proud of my inventory system. It's super convenient and functional. You can move stuff around one by one, by stacks, split stacks, autosort, and it has some cool little animations here and there for smooth looks.

And have you noticed this little thing on the right part? Yeah, your personal pocket blackhole!

Character Progression

Another point of my pride there, but in terms of art! I don't know, I just like my progress-bars like that... It might be a bit less informative this way, but... it's cool isn't it?! Staaaaaaaars! : D

Botanical journal

One of coolest feature in Death Afterparty I believe. And just look at these page changing animations!

Buider blueprints list

Well, the coolest feature of the game is that you have to build whole town as you want. And to do that you have to track your resources amount in the field just to know if you can build stuff you want to or not yet and need to chop couple more trees. Well, this window is all about that and much more! Here you can see what stats building will add and if it was already built at least once to gain exp.

Well then! It's by far not all the work that has been done past months. For more - join my subreddit and discord for weekly updates, check youtube and tiktok. Well, just check all the links below : )

Thank you for reading and thank you for wishlisting my game! It's still far from being done, even from demo being done, but remember - I work purely solo, all the code and art (excluding capsules) is being done by myself, and I still have full-time job, so it takes a lot of time and basically all my free time goes into the game.

Thanks again, merry Christmass and Happy new year! See ya next month : )
