Curry Princess GOLD changes
Here's another development update for Curry Princess Gold!
Thank You for TIGS2026!
We exhibited at TOKYO INDIE GAMES SUMMIT 2026, held on March 20–21, and so many people stopped by to play Curry Princess Gold.
Getting to hear feedback in person is incredibly valuable — watching players' expressions and reactions, and hearing their thoughts after each playthrough, gave me a lot to think about. Thank you so much to everyone who played!
Recent Progress
With that feedback in mind, I've made several significant changes over the past month.
🌶 Introducing the Special Item System
Jump and Barrier are now abilities that become available when the princess obtains certain special items found as the story progresses. As a result, in the first stage, you can only move and attack — no jumping or barriers yet.
While watching a couple of friends play the other day, I realized that players who don't usually play action games can easily feel overwhelmed when there are too many things to think about at once. Unlocking abilities gradually not only keeps things manageable, but also gives players something to look forward to — and honestly, I've grown quite fond of this approach.
For the same reason, the yellow and green spices won't appear right away either. For a good while starting from the first stage, it's red and blue only.
Curious what the first stage looks like now? I made a video — check it out! 👇
📖 Split & Revised Tutorials
Previously, a single tutorial explained everything all at once. Now, short tutorials are introduced at the moments when new abilities or new spice colors appear. Hopefully this keeps the "wait, what am I supposed to do again?" moments to a minimum.
💾 Unified Save & Load System
Save and load now work correctly across Nintendo Switch, PC, and the Unity Editor.
🏆 Leaderboards Now Cross-Platform
I've switched the backend service used for the leaderboards. Players on Switch and PC can now compete together on the same rankings.
Wrapping Up
It's been a month of behind-the-scenes changes, but I can feel the game's foundation getting steadily more solid. I'll keep chipping away at it — thanks for sticking around!
