CODEX MORTIS changes
Hi Everyone,
Quick look at what's brewing in the crypt:
Spell Mutators — we're building a system that lets spells fundamentally change behavior mid-run. Not just bigger numbers — new patterns, new triggers, weird side effects. Same starter spells, completely different runs.
1500 mutations in review — yes, fifteen hundred. All currently being tested for balance, feel, and synergy interactions. The ones that survive will start landing in builds over the coming weeks.
New Level-Up System in testing — we're reworking progression so leveling up actually feels like a decision:
Rarity now affects how many upgrades are on a single card — rarer cards carry more upgrades, spread across more spells.
Milestone levels grant a mutation to one of your spells.
No more spell level cap.
We're also testing unlocking spells mid-run instead of having your full kit from the start.
All of this is live on the Discord beta branch right now — go break it, tell us what feels good and what doesn't.
Reminder: the beta branch is not the stable branch. Expect bugs, balance swings, and things changing under your feet. That's the point — it's where we figure out what works before it ships to everyone.
Thank you for playing CODEX MORTIS. More updates are on the way. Cheers!
