Hi everyone,

CODEX MORTIS is in Early Access. Your feedback shapes the game directly. If something is not working for you, please share it on the Steam forums or our Discord - it helps far more than a negative review and we read and respond to everything.

New Spell: Beginner's Fate

A new starter spell that transforms into a random attack spell at the beginning of each run. It draws from Bone Spear, Corpse Flail, Crimson Rain, Jaw Strike, Spectral Army, Tentacle Lash, and Tooth Barrage - and won't duplicate spells you already have. Available as a default starting skill.

New Spell: Cursed Lantern

A new curse-type spell with an orbiting lantern mechanic. Cursed Lantern comes with 6 synergies that pair it with status effect spells:

  • Burning Lantern (+ Soul Burn) - applies burn to nearby enemies, +15% lantern damage

  • Bleeding Lantern (+ Hemorrhage) - applies bleed to nearby enemies, +20% lantern damage

  • Weakening Lantern (+ Weaken) - 20% chance to weaken enemies, +15% lantern range

  • Icy Lantern (+ Slow) - 20% chance to slow enemies, +15% lantern range

  • Terrifying Lantern (+ Terror) - 20% chance to terrify enemies, +15% lantern range

  • Confusing Lantern (+ Confusion) - 20% chance to confuse enemies, +15% lantern range

New Display Options

You can now choose between Fullscreen, Fullscreen Windowed, and Windowed (1280x720) display modes. We have also added a Souls Scale slider in the options menu to resize the souls HUD meter.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Tome system incorrectly triggering saves during initialization, which could corrupt spell slot progress

  • Fixed ritual sites spawning too far away in Throne Room Survival mode

  • Fixed Sand Tomb Survival: Roc enemies no longer collide with each other; guardian chains no longer render for position-only guardians

  • Fixed potential crash when loading enemy textures

  • Removed redundant spell cast icon effects on Tooth Barrage, Spectral Charge, Jaw Strike, and Bone Trail for cleaner visuals

  • Fixed music not resuming correctly after ending a boss fight

Thank you for playing CODEX MORTIS.

More updates are on the way.

  • CRUNCHFEST & GROLAF
