BIG LOOT changes
Hi, dear BIG LOOTERS!
This update brings some of the things I promised, along with features many of you have been asking for.
Since the game already has a lot of food items, I wanted to make them more valuable and useful.
New Items
New ores
New plants
New item type: Dish
Shovel - find rare buried treasures and dig them up
Cooking
You can now experiment by combining different food items to create powerful dishes (or not ;d). These meals restore significantly more hunger and thirst, so you won’t need to eat as often - just cook your food :)
More details:
Added 13 dishes. Unlock recipes through experimentation - some are easy to discover, others are more challenging, but worth it
Simple dishes cost 1 coin (just a formal price). They cannot be bought or sold at traders, except for some epic items
If you’ve ever found a camp with a bonfire and a cooking pot - good news, you can now cook there
Each town now has a bonfire with a cooking pot
At the final house level, you can cook using your furnace
Horse Upgrade
Upgrade your horse at a trainer (available in every town). Bring the food items she asks for to increase your caravan capacity.
You can now upgrade it from 30 up to 49 slots across 10 levels
New Biome: Abandoned Farm
A brand new adventure location focused on food.
No stones or ores here, so plan your route carefully
New places to explore
Some vegetables can grow anywhere - keep an eye on the ground
Available from adventure level 2
Game Modes
There are different types of players and sometimes you’re just in the mood to play differently. So I’ve added two game modes:
Relax Mode - enemies become aggressive only if you attack them, and you don’t lose items on death
Adventure Mode - enemies attack first, and you lose backpack and wagon items on death
All existing saves were moved to Adventure Mode, since it was the default before this update :)
Other Changes & Balancing
Increased Stamina perk bonuses from 5 to 8 (added 3 run speed bonuses)
Traders no longer require keys as payment in their offers, but they can still offer keys in trades
Chickens now spawn only on the Forbidden Farm
Increased hunger and thirst drain by 10%
Raw meat doesn't give positive stats anymore. You should cook it
Added an adventure day counter to the HUD (replaces health/hunger/thirst display while in town). Also updated the Trading Company order text. It now shows days left until refresh instead of remaining adventures
NOTE: The day number is also shown in the save slot. Don’t worry if it shows Day 1, it will update after your next adventure
What’s Next?
As mentioned before, the next update (0.7.0) is when BIG LOOT leaves Early Access and enters Full Release.
This will be a BIG BIG update - the biggest the game has ever had :) More details are available on Discord and in previous patch notes.
When? Most likely August 2026. I’m really putting a lot of work into this and want the full release to feel solid and properly done.
Before release, the game price will increase slightly, but nothing crazy. Even though the game will be roughly 3x bigger than it was at the start of Early Access, the price will go up by only about ~25%.
So if you want to grab it at the lowest price, now is a great time since the price will change in July.
A few words from me
There’s still a lot of work ahead. At the same time, I’ve also been learning new technologies and exploring other directions alongside game development, since it’s quite difficult to find stable work in gamedev right now. My funds are also running low, so I’m trying to keep things balanced and plan ahead.
I’m not giving up on game development, and BIG LOOT will definitely leave Early Access and reach full release. I want to finish it properly so it feels complete and well-made, like a finished game I can be proud of.
I really love what I do, and the community around BIG LOOT means a lot to me. Thank you for all your support, it genuinely keeps me going.
For those who read this devlog until the end - a small sneak peek: my next looter game will be designed for both solo play and co-op with friends. Based on everything I’ve learned from BIG LOOT, I want to create an even bigger and better looter experience. But to truly bring that vision to life on a proper scale, I will most likely need a publisher to support development. Without it, it becomes really hard to keep doing this long-term. But it’s still too early to go into details while I’m fully focused on finishing BIG LOOT.
I will keep pushing and I will release a great looter game. I’m ready to fight for this dream, no matter the difficulties.
