Backrooms: Extractions changes
Your bodycam just became the most important tool in the Backrooms. Film the entities to fill their dossiers, fire the new instability scanner to reveal what the maze is hiding, and watch it all through a brand-new analog lens. A hefty batch of fixes ships alongside • full list below.
The Bodycam, Rebuilt
Full camcorder interface • The bodycam display has been rebuilt: real key prompts that follow your input device, a proper zoom track, a live clock, boot flicker and analog screen quirks. M.E.G transmissions now print directly on the camera display, typewriter style.
Analog film look • A new image treatment inspired by analog found footage now applies to every view: gameplay, kill cameras, spectator and interactive screens. Distracting artifacts fade out automatically while you read a screen, so nothing hurts usability.
Cleaner frame • The camcorder border no longer spits stretched pixel tails and dying lines across the image.
New camera sounds • Power clicks, zoom, scan pulses and a data-recording loop • all analog, fitting the gear.
Hiding spots • The camera now stays aligned with your eyes in hiding spots that bury your chest (ball pit, car) • no more filming the inside of the props.
NEW • The Field Bestiary
Film the entities • Point your bodycam at an entity to identify and document it. Each entity has a dossier that fills up in tiers the longer you film it, unlocking data and field captures.
Instant rewards • Completing a dossier tier grants XP, money and MEG on the spot.
Field Research recap • A new end-of-run screen recaps the entities you identified, with your own polaroid captures and the rewards you earned.
Beware of imitations • A disguised SkinStealer reads as a regular player on camera • the dossier only reacts once it reveals itself.
Fully localized • Dossiers and registry labels are translated in all supported languages.
NEW • The Instability Scanner
Thermal pulse • The bodycam can now fire a scanning pulse that sweeps out around you and returns, highlighting mission and puzzle objects through the environment • water machines, VHS tapes, cakes, planks and more.
Tuned for readability • The scan view suppresses glare and light bloom so highlighted targets stay readable even in bright rooms.
Recharge feedback • The scanner key fills up as it recharges and turns amber when armed; firing too early gives a clear denied response.
Creatures
Smiler • Can no longer attack through thin walls, no longer clips through corners, and no longer freezes in place or walks on the spot. Its whispers are spatialized with a soft fade-in, and getting too close now triggers an escalating interference warning instead of an unreadable instant death.
Partygoers are back • A configuration bug prevented Partygoers from spawning in The Fun. They now drop from the pipe mouths exactly as intended, telegraphed by a falling cloud of dust.
Wraith • Fixed the Wraith never spawning in The Fun. The buildup ghost now appears and departs through its floor portal for everyone and no longer lingers at stale positions for clients; the kill camera stays properly locked during the grab.
SkinStealer • Now vanishes into its smoke instead of blinking out, and the vanish effect plays out fully for everyone.
Balloons • Pops behind closed doors no longer stress or shake you from a distance, and movement is smoother for clients.
Multiplayer
Achievements for everyone • Players who are not the host now correctly receive end-of-level Steam achievements (Express Extraction and friends).
Purchases no longer vanish • Fixed shop purchases silently disappearing for client players who had previously touched Endless mode, while the money stayed spent.
Mission items survive disconnects • When a teammate disconnects while carrying mission items, those items now drop on the ground instead of vanishing • no more unfinishable missions.
Ritual sigils • Clients holding the torch can now burn sigils in Paradise, and the MK1 detector tracks undiscovered sigils properly.
Blackouts jam radios • During a blackout, all radios are forced off and jammed, with a signal-lost warning on the helmet HUD.
Interface & Progression
Mission tracker rework • The helmet HUD mission display has been rebuilt: animated objectives, per-step progress, completion feedback • and it finally updates correctly for clients.
Rank-up unlocks • Leveling up now shows exactly what you unlocked, with NEW badges in the shop and level select and a reminder back at the lab.
Results screen • The end-of-run recap no longer overflows on busy runs: content scales to fit, long loot lists switch to a compact grid, and defeat screens are clearer.
Crash Fixes & Performance
GPU crash at launch • Fixed a GPU crash that could trigger at boot or on resolution changes with FidelityFX upscaling enabled.
Smoother chases • Creature pursuit no longer recalculates its path far too often • fixes the heavy frame drops during Wretch chases.
Bestiary stability • Fixed a crash when completing a dossier tier, and black field captures when HDR or Frame Generation is enabled.
Various Fixes
Fair play • Removed leftover debug keys that could silently alter currency and XP.
No looting from beyond • Dead players can no longer interact with the world, and a tool being unequipped can no longer be looted straight from your hands to duplicate it.
MEG chest • Loot can no longer spawn wedged inside geometry; if the chest is completely boxed in, rewards go straight to inventories.
Executions • Jumping is blocked during entity executions and carries, the erratic execution camera shake is gone, and abandoning a run now shows your death before the end screen.
Odds and ends • The "disrespectful" achievement can now actually be unlocked, and the helmet flashlight glows properly when toggled.
The Backrooms won't document themselves. Grab your camera, film, scan, report back • and thank you for every report you send, they shape these updates.
