Balance Patch & Arena Update Progress

Hello everyone!

Today I'm releasing the biggest balance patch the game has received so far.

This update contains dozens of balance changes, bug fixes, visual improvements, and quality-of-life features that were developed alongside the upcoming Arena (PvP) Update.

My initial plan was to release the Arena Update this month, but May ended up being packed with wonderful real-life events and I wasn't able to finish everything to the quality standard I wanted.

As a result, the Arena Update has been postponed to June 25th.

In the meantime, this patch includes all the balancing work and system improvements created during Arena development.

Highlights

Card balance

  • Added 16 new cards (1 new small card for each pack).

  • Nearly every Pack received buffs, adjustments, or reworks to improve build diversity and prepare the game for competitive PvP balance.

Character Balance

  • Starting HP, Coins, and Income have been rebalanced for all classes.

  • These values are now visible directly in the Start Menu.

  • Archer starting attributes increased.

  • Joker starting attributes reduced.

Joker Changes

  • Joker starter packs now always contain 3 cards.

  • Base Pack cards are automatically added as fillers when necessary.

  • Starter cards can no longer contain positional keywords such as:

    • Adjacent

    • Next

    • Previous

    • Above

    • Below

Crafting Improvements

  • Blacksmith and Skill Master crafting now scales with card size and cooldown.

  • Larger and slower cards receive greater crafting bonuses.

Visual Improvements

  • All monster artwork has been upgraded to HD.

  • Added new animations for:

    • Bleed

    • Poison

    • Thorn

  • Reworked combat VFX and particle effects to improve clarity and readability.

Quality of Life

  • Added multiple Boss previews for higher difficulties.

  • Cards that cannot be used in crafting events are now displayed with a black-and-white filter.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed several crashes related to conditional effects and attribute gains.

  • Fixed crashes when upgrading cards that already contain every attribute or stat.

  • Fixed a bug where Skill Master would sometimes refuse valid cards.

  • Fixed a soft lock caused by missing events during a day.

  • Fixed keyword tooltips always appearing in the bottom-right corner.

  • Reworked card rendering for improved responsiveness and performance.

Known Issues

While this patch fixes a large number of bugs, a few known issues still remain:

  • The game may be slow to start on some systems and can occasionally crash during the initial loading sequence.

  • Rare freezes can occur when starting a new run or when exiting the game.

  • Crashes can still be particularly frustrating because the game does not yet feature a save/load system for ongoing runs.

All of these issues are actively being worked on. However, my current priority is completing the Arena Update, so these improvements will most likely arrive after its release.

A Word from the Dev

Work on the Arena Update is progressing well.

The core systems are already functioning, but I still need additional time for polishing, balancing, and testing before I feel comfortable releasing it.

Detailed Balance Patch:

Base Pack

  • Absolute ZERO

    • BUFF: No longer has a usage limit.

  • Avalanche

    • BUFF: Now freezes 1 card for 1.0 / 2.0 / 3.0 / 4.0 seconds on use.

  • Hunting Net

    • BUFFSlow duration increased to 5 seconds.
    • BUFF: Number of targets now scales with tier.

    • NEW EFFECT: When you gain WILL or DEXTERITY, charge the next card by 1 second.

  • Full Recovery

    • BUFFHaste duration increased by 0.5 seconds at all tiers.
  • Crazy Clock

    • BUFFCharge duration increased from 0.5s to 1.0s.
  • Small Protection

    • NERFCooldown increased from 5s to 6s.
    • NERFAttribute gain reduced (5 / 5 / 5 / 5) → (1 / 2 / 3 / 4).
  • Barbarian's Armbands

    • NERFCooldown increased from 4s to 6s.
    • NEW EFFECT: Reduce cooldown by 30% with 27 WILL.

  • Overthinking Hat

  • Basic Hit

    • NERF: Now starts at Silver tier.

  • Steak

    • NERF: Conditional effect now requires 30 Charisma instead of 25.

  • Scrolls

    • CHANGE: All stat scrolls now target all your cards instead of only the first card.

  • Oversized Armor

    • BUFFTrigger condition changed from "when you gain Strength" to "when you use a card that grants any attribute."

Farm

    • NERFCooldown increased (6 / 5 / 4 / 3) → (8 / 7 / 6 / 5).
  • Sheep

  • Farmer's Trap

    • BUFFAdded the Trap tag.

Thief

  • Camo Gear

    • BUFF: Now triggers whenever the enemy uses a card instead of when taking damage.

  • Furniture Throw

    • BUFFSlow damage scaling increased (+10 / 15 / 20 / 25) instead of (+5 / 7 / 9 / 11).
  • Low Blow

    • BUFFBase damage increased by 5.
  • Dagger

    • NERFCooldown increased from 5s to 6s.

  • Frozen Reactor

    • BUFF: Now also freezes 1 enemy card for 2.0 seconds.

Tavern

  • Suspiciously Large Beer

    • BUFFHaste duration increased from 20s to 30s.
  • Pub Crawl

    • NERFAttribute gain reduced (25 / 35 / 45 / 55) → (10 / 20 / 30 / 40).
  • Empty Mug

    • BUFFCooldown changed (6 / 5 / 4 / 3) → 4.
    • BUFFHaste duration increased (2s) → (2 / 3 / 4 / 5s).

Jeweler

  • Engravement

    • CHANGE: Intelligence scaling instead of Dexterity scaling.

    • BUFF: No longer slows your own cards.

    • NEW EFFECT: Every 7.0 seconds, a random Intelligence card gains +3 / 4 / 5 Intelligence.

  • Crystal Golem

    • BUFF: Gain +20 / 30 Shield when selling a Stone instead of +4 / 8.

  • Raw Rubies

    • NERFCooldown increased from 4s to 6s.
  • Raw Emeralds

    • BUFFSell damage scaling improved (+1 per 6 / 5 / 4 / 3) instead of (+1 per 12 / 10 / 8 / 6).

Burning Winter

  • Plasma Protection

    • NEW EFFECT: Freeze 1 card for 1.0 second with 33 Intelligence.

    • BUFF: Trigger now activates when applying Burn to an enemy instead of to yourself.

  • Shiny Shoes

    • BUFFCooldown reduced from 5s to 4s.
  • Captured Fire

    • BUFF: Now increases the Burn value of all your Burn cards.

    • BUFF: Now freezes random enemy cards instead of your own.

  • Flame Guard

    • BUFFCooldown reduced from 7s to 6s.
  • Flame Breath

    • BUFFBurn value increased from 5 to 10.
  • Treasure Map

    • BUFFCooldown reduced from 8s to 6s.

Blood Mage

  • Blood Channeling

    • BUFF: Now applies Bleed to the enemy instead of yourself.
