With update 0.4.4, we set ourselves a challenge: take your feedback, push further, and try something bold. This patch introduces some of the biggest shifts to Ashes of Morgravia so far - from deckbuilding to item progression - reshaping how every run feels.

🃏 Deck Editor - Build Before You Begin

We heard you out regarding your feedback. Now, you can edit your deck before each run. This is a major shift in how you approach the game: craft your deck to complement your gear and tailor strategies to your playstyle. Personally, it’s hard to imagine going back - it just feels right.

📜 Unlockable Cards with Quests

A powerful deck should be earned. Cards in the editor now unlock through quests, giving you new goals to chase and ensuring your hands will be full for the foreseeable future.

🌀 Ethereal Cards

To complement the deck editor, all cards gained during the Desolation are now Ethereal — they vanish when you return to the Sanctum. This keeps your edited deck meaningful while ensuring that each run feels fresh and self-contained.

🎨 New Visuals

We rebuilt the Sanctum, item icons, and intro sequence from scratch. Everything now feels more cohesive and aligned with the atmosphere of Morgravia’s dark world.

🛡️ Run Penalties Rework

  • No more downgrades on death. Dying should sting, but not spiral you into a punishment loop. This change makes runs fairer without removing tension.

  • Healing in the Sanctum. Returning restores you to full health.

  • Torment & heal options removed. Since torment cards don’t carry over, there’s no need to burn them away anymore.

⚖️ Balance & Progression

  • Cards and enemies rebalanced to better fit the new systems.

  • Upgrade costs increased. With no more downgrades, we’ve made upgrades pricier to preserve progression pacing.

✨ Fresh Content

  • New items added - keep your eyes open.

  • New Sanctum music by the brilliant Makai Symphony. The reworked visuals deserved a haunting new score, and this one gave us chills when speaking to the Harbinger.

What’s Next

In the near future, we’ll be focusing on:

  • Fixing known bugs.

  • Improving buff/debuff displays when enemies stand on adjacent vertical tiles (we already have a system planned).

  • Exploring a set system for items - but we’ll keep the details close to the chest for now.

This update is another step toward making Ashes of Morgravia the deep, dark tactical journey we’ve envisioned - shaped by your feedback and our obsession with pushing it further.

Thank you for playing, thank you for sharing your thoughts, and as always:

🕯️ Stay sharp, and never surrender to the Well.
