Repeated intro
Hello everyone, welcome back to our mini devlog where we talk about what we are currently working on, share work in progress screenshots, and sometimes discuss future plans for Asbak. ːsteamhappyː
What changed
- Gameplay
- Maps
- UI and audio
Since our last devlog, we have been busy preparing for the upcoming Steam Next Fest in June, so you can expect various updates from us prior to Steam Next Fest. One thing that you can expect is an update for the Steam Demo, and it is probably going to be the last big update for the Steam demo, since we want to shift focus on releasing the game this year, following the participation of Steam Next Fest. We would be more than grateful if one of your summer plans is to try the new Asbak demo.
Anyways, let's take a look at some of the things that we've been working on for the game.
Pocong Merah
You've seen Pocong, but have you seen in them in red? According to Indonesian folklore, Pocong Merah or Red Pocong is a more aggressive and vengeful spirit when compared to the normal Pocong shrouded in white. The red shroud is believed to be caused by the blood of the wearer, implying that the wearer either died in a brutal way or was still alive when they were buried.
In Asbak, Pocong Merah will be a special enemy variant that you can encounter in the late stages of the full game. They should pose as a higher threat since they are tougher than the normal Pocong and has an entirely new moveset.
The Phone Menu
The new menu UI shown above will essentially function as an inventory and status screen for the player (not a pause menu), showing the player what their character is carrying in their inventory and the status effect that are currently affecting the character. Each playable character will also have their own unique phone design, respective to their character and personality.
Quality of Life Improvements
Fun fact: The game wasn't able to open the setting menu when you're in the middle of playing a stage due to technical limitations of the game engine and the codebase we're using to develop the game. But now, we have a functioning setting menu that you can open in the middle of a stage, but of course, it's still being tested to avoid bugs.
Speaking of setting menu, by players request, we added a button mapping option, so players can assign their inputs to their desired button on their peripherals.
