Repeated intro
Hello everyone, welcome back to our mini devlog where we talk about what we are currently working on, share work in progress screenshots, and sometimes discuss future plans for Asbak. ːsteamhappyː
What changed
- Gameplay
Since our last devlog, we continued working on the roguelike progression of our game, reworked another one of the playable characters, made some progress on one of the new bosses, etc.
New Demo Update is LIVE!
We updated our Steam demo to include more content and gameplay changes. Here are what you could expect from the new Steam demo:
Roguelike Progression (NEW)
Elixirs to power up your character (NEW)
New playable area
Sam and Liza gameplay changes
Genderuwo boss visual revamp
And more!
It would be awesome if you could try out the demo again to experience the new stuff we have added (feedback are also welcome ːsteamthumbsupː).
Liza Gameplay Rework
After many hours of playtest with players and even other game devs, we realize that playing as Liza felt sluggish and awkward, so we went back to the drawing board and changed how Liza skills would work. Here is a quick list of the changes:
Liza's Heavy Attack now summon orbs called "Heart Ties" that will shoot projectiles at nearby enemies. Heart Ties will not shoot projectiles when it is depleted.
Liza starts with three Heart Ties by default. Heart Ties can be depleted by using the Heartburst Pillar or Cupid Arrow skill. Heart Ties is replenished after switching characters.
Liza's Ultimate Skill now shoots multiple beams of laser to visible enemies until the Ultimate bar is depleted.
Hopefully, after these changes, playing as Liza would be more "fun". You can try the above changes in the latest Asbak demo
Serpent Lady Boss
We also want to share a work in progress boss named Nyi Blorong (not included in the new demo).
In Indonesian folklore, Nyi Blorong (aka Serpent Lady) is a seductive spirit from the Southern Sea kingdom under Queen Nyi Roro Kidul. She is half beautiful woman, half giant serpent, she grants wealth (pesugihan) via dangerous pacts. In Asbak, Nyi Blorong will be a new boss that you can encounter in the full version of the game, we plan to set up the boss fight in the middle of a stormy sea to make it more cinematic.
