Ancients of Arkar changes
Another busy week, and one unchained from rewriting and making new cutscenes. That usually means a lot more varied work was completed, and this is no exception. The Unbranded Settlement is the main 'town' in Ancients of Arkar, and it's filled with people who woke up in the Pools of Reflection, but were kicked out of Arkar.
You'll be able to interact with them and do quests with a few. It's your go to 'cozy' area in Arkar, although the underlying themes tell the dark, rich history of the world.
So, anyway, the Unbranded NPCs all got facelifts, and even the outside of the unbranded settlement. We also added new faces, AND downsized the whole scope quite a bit. It's one of those tough developer decisions, but we had to do it to make sure what we want to make actually gets finished.
On to what we did this week:
Remade the Unbranded Settlement Outdoors
Added new homes for some NPCs
Added new nooks and crannies for secrets in the town
Added new 'Filth Hole' path (Basically the impromptu dump)
Added names to the shops! (Atisa's Share-isa, End of World Tavern, The Somnolent Spoon)
Overall massive improvement to the overall look!
Remade the 'Reflection Tower' level
Notoriously known as 'our worst looking level', it hangs up that crown, as it looks great now.
Still kept the same secrets, optimizing workflow, and not overscoping it.
Finished it in a day, as a test of 'pressure focused design'.
Added new Unbranded NPCs
Added Ince, Feeswe, Mary, Future Alaskii, Number 1, Midolwia and Thamir!
Removed some superfluous NPCs
Removed Nick, Niche, Walter and Reckah.
Redone sprites
The new facelift for Unbranded has commenced, massively improving work that was left in the dust.
That's it for this week. As the 'Arkar months' proceed, expect more work that we said we'd do years ago, to finally get finished. All of this serves to improve first impressions, since the game is 10/10 later. We don't want you guys to tell your friends that the game gets good 30 hours in, just stick with it. That would be irresponsible of us. :)
Considering there's probably only 1 or 2 of you reading these at this time, we can afford to spend extra time polishing, as we're not pressured toward a release date yet.
